    North to Alaska

OCR, are you going all the way up to Prudhoe bay again? I was thinking about trying to do that ride next year and was thinking it would be wise to go with another rider, preferably one who has already done it. -Tom

Any motorcycle snow tires out there?

I tried riding in to work yesterday with a couple of inches of snow on the ground and some that was still falling, but only made it a few blocks before I realized that I would never make it over the large hill on the way. Riding, turning and stopping was OK as long as I was smooth, but on even...

The Africa Twin is Back: CRF1000L Africa Twin Confirmed for 2015

Really interested in this bike and would likely trade the NC for one, but no cruise and no tricolor spoils it for me. Also would hate to lose the frunk, but all of the other gains would help make up for it. Glad to see the accessory to shift the DCT manually by foot. If I'm going to trade in...

Which tools do I need to change my own tires and adjust chain?

Well, I got it done with the help of a friend. We used his Harbor Freight changer and replaced my TKC-80 rear (9,400 miles) with a new Mitas MC60 Getaway. I could have probably got another 1,000 miles out of it, but wanted more tread with snow/ice possible any time. We installed the...

    Question about Kaoko and Barkbusters

I believe the bolt I used was a Metric cap bolt. The threads are 6mm X 1.0P X 100mm. Realistically, you can use anything longer than 100mm, since it will go completely through the bar end weight. 110mm or 120mm long will work just as well. Tom

My Lazer Monaco carbon fiber size Small will fit with the mount atttached, but not the SMH-10 unit. My Vemar Jiano Evo TC size X-small fits WITH the SMH-10 still attached!

Thank you everyone for your responses. What size socket do I need to remove the rear wheel?

Which tools do I need to change my own tires and adjust chain?

OK, I bought the Cycle Hill tire changer and the roll-on mount for it (the receiver hitch mount is apparently no longer available). I have a couple of rear tires (TKC80 and Mitas MC60) on the way to me now. I have never changed a motorcycle tire before. What other tools/supplies do I need in...

How much should a tire mount cost for a ride in...

My last tire change was $60 per tire on the bike with tires purchased from them. This was from the Honda Dealer I purchased the bike from.

Thanks for doing this! One note on the Lazer Monaco. The small fits, but is very snug.

    Scratched Pinlock Visor-Rant

I ride everyday in the dark with my pinlock in and have never had any light scatter. I do realize, however, that different visor shapes may offer different results. I honestly don't notice any optical differences between it being in or out. YMMV

    does it fit? (helmet addition)

Vemar Jiano Evo TC Night Vision size XS not only fits, but it fits WITH the Sena SMH-10 still attached! If it only had a pinlock visor, it would be my new favorite helmet.

Straw Poll - NC700/750 - Incapable of carrying a pillion more than 20 miles

When I had my ST1100, my wife wanted to stop about every hour. With the NC, she is fine just stopping for gas when we need a fill up. She prefers the NC seat to the ST's because it isn't as wide. We rode just shy of 4 hours in October to a conference without stopping with no complaints, then...

    Conti TKC 80 tires

I've got about a thousand miles on my TKC80 front and rear. Prior to these was the original tires. So far I am very impressed with the TKC80s. Great on-road grip after they are scrubbed in. I have the utmost confidence in these tires to grip in the rain and dry, where my OEM tires would slip...

    K60/TKC80 combo info, please.

Street tires work better for the highway portion of my commute, but the TKC80s are (so far) much better for the twisty portion due to the possibility of mud, gravel, tree boughs/branches and other debris that appears periodically. I notice a bit of flexing of the large blocks when cornering...

Looking at an NC700x for occasional two up and dirt roads

My wife prefers the NC700X pillion seat over my ST1100 pillion. We have gone on several hundred mile trips and she doesn't seem to have any issues. We are around the same size as you. It will struggle on really steep hills 2 up with loaded luggage, but without luggage, it's not bad. On...

    K60/TKC80 combo info, please.

I'm loving these tires so far. They definitely add some vibration and road noise, but not enough to be a problem. The traction is much better than my old tires, but then they were well worn. They also maintain traction on the long sections of mud on the road where logging trucks pull out and...
