What camping gear do you recommend?

Easy... Not my dog. :-D

Someone else at the really came in on a hack which is more convenient. He was just a ham... :)

For those who have expressed interest in hammocks, Woot has a hammock with moquito netting for $25. US shipping only (sorry rest of the world).

Cheap way to try out camping hammock. Deal ends at midnight.

Boy this is making it hard not to try out a hammock! Thanks for posting this.

Added these 3 items to my gear today in preparation for the Horizons Unlimited meet.

Figured I'd need this for dressing if nothing else... besides who wants to sit on the floor of the 3 foot high tent all the time!

This pillow packs down pretty small and sure will make sleeping nicer.

I can't stand sleeping in the heat and humidity... without a fan....

I believe I have the same pillow, it isn't great on the ground w/ a mat (seems to be fluffy everywhere except for where you put your head, but it does keep your head off the ground). Though it is made much better by washing and drying it in a machine before use.

What works best for a pillow for me is an inflatable seat cushion folded half and stuffed in a tee shirt for a pillow case. It takes up virtually no room deflated and is tall enough to function as a pillow.

Thanks for the info, I will be sure to wash it before I leave for the Horizons Unlimited meet next week!

All you folks with this bike "washing thing". That is why we have rain! My bike is plastic for a reason. Just ride in the rain. Just ride!

Wash a motorcycle? Not enough ride time as it is already.

Two new additions this year are the pop can alcohol stove, and the 21" Sven bow saw. During my trips/tours,
I've been wanting a campfire when I call it a day. I've used bow saws before and they're great for zipping
through 6"-8" logs. Today I ordered the 21" model from Sven. It has great reviews and some owners are going on 20-30 years of use. It folds up for storage and only adds a pound of weight to my gear. And for those that look for it, it is made in the U.S.A..
**The blade is made in Denmark**

I will be on firewood detail at the SGT 2.0!

I have a pillow that folds smaller but it still takes up too much room than what I like. I currently have a Wal-Mart mummy bag, it's fairly roomy when in it for a mummy bag. Packs smallish but my next purchase is a down bag. I currently use a slumberjack trails tent but I'm looking into doing the hammock thing. I also use a big agnus air pad, it doesn't have much on the insulation but it provides up to 3 inches of comfort and packs up pretty small. All in all I can squeeze my sleeping bag, tent minus the poles and the sleeping pad in one oem side bag.

3.jpgI found this fairly roomy tent! And if you carry a 21" Sven bow saw, poles do not have to be carried on your pony.3.jpg

For sticks that size, nature provided me with the: two-hands-and-stick-snapped-over-my-shin......method.
-At least for the top half of those teepee stakes. :)

I had been using a good three man dome tent and still do when doing shorter duration trips and when I will be in one spot for more than a day or two and want more room to spead out, works fine but weighs like 7lb.s and takes up a good amount of one of my side case. Found out about Hennessy hammocks while travelling and purchased one a Expedtition Asym Zip. Light about 3lbs with snake skins for fast setup-takedown (three minutes) couple beaners and rings for super slick system, fits in a small sack, has built in no-see-um netting and rain fly. I use a light pad under me in cold weather for a warmer back. Have not been in an area yet where I could not use it ( I don't do deserts). Check them out for traveling when trying to save space and lbs. I sleep as good in it as with my tent-therma-rest combo. Punch Hennessy Hammocks up in U-tube there are piles of vids about them. Ride safe.
