2019: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

I was getting ready to leave my driveway for work this morning and the bike would not start. I turned the key and hit the starter with no effect. I turn the key off, turned the kill switch off and then turned the key back on and while holding the starter button down I flicked the kill switch to on, the bike started right up. I may or may not be able to start the bike for the trip home from work, I'm about to find out in about 15 minutes.

Edit:\ It was pouring rain when I left work. The bike stuttered a bit then started and continued to run for ten minutes before I left the parking lot. I need a new battery.

X-RAY done, nothing broken. Lots of deep muscle and bone bruising.

The bike seems ok, will need some new plastic and a new right side saddlebag.

Unfortunately I finally got to test my theory or deer. Do what you can to avoid he situation and minimize the chance of an encounter, if deer are present slow down.
Glad you survived the encounter and thanks for your great advise!

Ditto, glad you made it out of that one Gigs... wow. :{P

Today i was able to go down and get the 705 mounted. The tire shop allowed me to use their machine and did it myself again this year! ...and no charge haha!! Got it home and went to balance it, it was nearly perfect as is, right on!! got it on the bike and went for a scrubbing ride! Afterwards i stopped off at Sonic drive-in for a frozen Lemonade(86f today) and rode home for supper!! :{)

Do what you can to avoid he situation and minimize the chance of an encounter, if deer are present slow down If it becomes inevitable that you are hitting a deer, stay on the bike, keep the bike upright and do not slam on the brakes. Use the inharant stability of the bike when at constant speed and upright to help you. Hold on, hands on grips and feet on pegs. If you can sideswipe vs headon do that. Maintain stability, after contact keep moving. Get clear of debris and flailing animals, start to slow down very slowly still using the gyroscopic effect to keep you up.
My right leg had struck the deer and was in immense pain, so while I was slowing down I was concerned it was broke, I wiggled my toes, then moved my ankle. Then I could stop somewhere safe. Make sure you're ok. I was so I went back to the scene, found my saddle bag and silver side emblem. Never found the deer. Gave the bike a once over and went to work. From there I wasn't advised to go to urgent care.

I'm curious whether your deer strike was day or night time. I’ve pretty much stopped riding at night for fear of animal encounters, although I still see plenty of them during the day. My closest encounter was daytime in Colorado where a small deer shot out of the woods but had the sense to veer and run right along side me for a few seconds. It was so close I could have put a leg out and touched it. Scary stuff.

Yours was a bad incident, but I’m glad you’re in reasonably good shape. Thanks for sharing the event details and your advice.

installed the AS3 skid plate. Build quality seems pretty good overall. One of the bolts they included wasn't a flange head like they said, but not a big deal - I'll be finding a proper replacement and using it.

Yesterday I added some extensions to the fender mount to raise it up while keeping the fender from pivoting front/rear as I'm afraid it could using the typical method. Still need to touch it up a little bit to get the fender to fit without trimming but it's close.

Those are really beefy looking tires. Is there much additional noise or buzz?

Noticed the headlight was out on the way to work today. Picked up a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra. If I knew when it was going to go I could have been better prepared :). Replacement on the S was pretty easy.

I went up to Santa Barbara Wine Country for the night and had a nice ride back home today.
Believe it or not there's 9 bottles of wine onboard. 6 in the frunk, 2 in the tank bag and one in my Givi tail bag with my luggage.

I finally rode down to Cold Spring Tavern, down near the base of "Suicide Bridge" in the Santa Ynez Pass.

Learned the centerstand has limits. :) This was after knocking the bike over from pushing too hard on a tire plug. No real damage since it hit the wall first and shaved three inches off the brake lever I never used anyway. After riding I could tell it was pulling left/pushing right. While I was straightening the front wheel I decided to add some 5wt fork oil. The caps were tough to get back on but straightening the wheel and adding some oil has already made a pretty big difference for me. I was also able to get one turn in the rear shock's preload. enough. It improved handling enough i probably won't mess with it for a while.

It was 530am so it was dark, literally the most active time for deer.

I know there are conversations about dash cams for bikes elsewhere in this forum but I note a camera under the beak of your bike. Which system did you install and would you recommend it?

I think it's an innov k1 but forget... was on the bike when I bought it and have never looked at footage. it does appear to have some dirt behind the lens so I doubt video quality is great at this point.

Update. With some duct tape, epoxy and ingenuity I have the bike road ready again. After some rest and staying off of my foot I'm ready for some road again.

Nice aggie engineering on the bodywork. Gorilla Glue makes a clear duct tape that'll hold on smooth plastic as good as their other stuff.
Now that I live in the country my biggest fear riding is wayward animals followed by large, monstrous farm equipment. There's no good way to collide with a cow on a motorcycle. Or a deer. Sometimes you can slide under a tractor. Not a cow.

It's the main reason I felt the need to pick up a cheap fleabay silencer with almost no resistance. In this town 4 out of 5 bikes are Harley's or similar with modded or straight exhaust (and half the trucks) so it's still under the noise radar, if there is one.

Serious topic of course and actually I've GoPro footage of a near miss I had of a cow in the forest, late at night:

...but reading this and I have the mental image of a cow riding a motorbike. Would need to be something big, like a Goldwing or the like - for a big old bull to sit comfortably.
