Question The heat from the engine on the right side.

Does anybody experience the hot air coming from the engine on the right side in hot weather? Third week on NC750X DCT, noticed that once it got hotter. Looks like there is more heat on the right side and it goes through the vent in the side cover right into your calf when you move. Nothing like that on the left side. I've also noticed the frame is hotter on the right side too.

I thought that in Canada, the NC750X has been offered, over the years, in three different body styles. As the fairing and plastics could affect the air flow, which model year is your bike?

I have the 2023 NC750X DCT, the side covers look the same for 2021-2023, but I may be wrong.

I've never notice, however I wear heavy weight motorcycle pants.
I have just over 19K miles on my bike.

I've never noticed objectionable heat coming off the NC700X engine. I can't even recall feeling or hearing the cooling fan ever coming on.

I rode 91 miles today @ 91 degrees and sunny and purposely tried to see if there was more heat coming off the right than left, but I honestly couldn't feel a difference and today I was wearing thin blue jeans instead of my Tourmaster cordura riding pants. My cooling fan has never come on that I know of.

Like others have said, I’ve never noticed more heat from one side or the other. In fact, I’d say of all the gasoline motorcycles I’ve owned 250cc and above, my 2012 NC700X has the least noticeable heat output.

The exhaust pipe is practically under your right foot peg. There is going to be a little heat coming up from that. Get out of the GTA traffic and go faster. You will feel it less.

I’m a long time lurker and will post a proper introduction soon (it’s a long painful story with a happy end - but I want to get my dates straight…) and I decided to join so that I could respond to this post.

I have a 2023 NC750X bought new with roughly 1,400 miles on it now. Last Thursday I used the bike to pick up some groceries. It was 90 degrees and I was wearing shorts. It’s 5 miles each way. At a stoplight about 4 miles in I felt heat on my right shin and was really surprised because I didn’t feel any heat on my left. I don’t have a ton of miles on the bike yet, and I live where I’m able to avoid a lot of traffic and haven‘t felt it otherwise so it was striking at the time. Bikes not moving throw off heat, but it did seem unbalanced to me and I can imagine why Trekka is asking about this issue.

Same here. I will wear boots and jeans riding the back roads locally, but never shorts or sneakers.

Normally I’m wearing Oxford Montreal pants and riding jacket if I’m going any distance. On those longer rides I haven’t felt the heat off the bike and have used my heated grips quite a bit and my heated vest twice. That day was just a helmet and gloves. We haven’t had too many warm days this season that I’ve had the time to ride. I waited until April 15 to pick the bike up because of a late spring and preferring to wait until the sand is picked up out the corners by the town or partially washed away by the rain. The past 2 days it’s 45 and raining and I debated about firing up the space heater in the house. I wasn’t going to wear my jacket and pants to go to the store - I would have passed out hahaha. I fully understand it’s risky to not wear full gear.

I would say, it really depends what side the wind is coming from when stopped or going slow.

I was stopped at an intersection not far from my house a couple weeks ago. I was wearing my helmet, gloves and riding jacket with regular (non-riding) pants. I positioned myself in the far left corner of my lane. A driver coming from my right decided they would turn left by cutting through my lane at a 45 degree angle. That‘s when she saw me and dove inside of me and then behind me into the correct lane. If she had hit me I doubt the pants I was wearing would have mattered.

Update - I've used an infrared thermometer and the frame on the right side along with the fairing is definitely "warmer" than the left side. You can feel it with your hand too. Btw I do wear full gear every time I ride, so it wasn't the case of being in shorts or anything like that. Not a big deal, just something that I noticed when it was +32C while actually riding, not at the stop.

Per the cooling system flow pattern (see attached photo), the hot coolant enters the radiator on the right (throttle hand) side, and exits the radiator, cooled, on the left side. With a warm and operating engine, temperature measurements taken on the right side near the radiator should be expected to be warmer than measurements taken on the left side.

As I said before, in real life usage, the NC engine/radiator produces relatively little heat, and through my typical motorcycle gear, I notice no difference between the sides. In contrast, on my CRF250L, the small radiator is only on the left side. I can definitely feel the left is the hot side in warm weather.
