Easy to miss if you're not looking for it. No need for embarrassment, I'm sure most of us have had our moments of Doh!. I certainly did with my little $395.00 "I'm sure it's not the battery!" blunder.

You were right, and I was more surprised than embarrased. Having gone over forty years since my last bike, I had never seen a water cooled engine much less one that had a screw in the radiator cap! Great safety feature! Also, while looking into it, I found that Japenese bikes (and cars) use a JIS type Phillips head that is designed specifically for their screws. Have one on order.
