I did a clutch cable adjustment today. I am at the end of my available adjustment in the cable. It made me curious on what the lifespan of the clutch cable was with other users. I am just over 96K km(59.7k miles). I am a weekday commuter so the lever does get some work at lights.

Any bike anecdotes are welcome.

I may have adjusted the clutch cable on Wiley (2012 that I bought new) once. I forget just now how many miles are on the bike, but it's fifty-something thousand, so very similar miles. I also used the bike to commute every day for years, though it was mostly on the freeway going into a huge metropolis. Probably not as much shifting as you, if you ride surface streets a lot, but still plenty.

I guess I didn’t realize the clutch cable needed adjusting. What symptoms did you notice that indicated the need for adjustment? I also am a commuter approaching 20,000 miles and have only oiled my cable once.

As the clutch fiber friction plates wear thinner, my initial 5 second analysis says the cable will eventually require adjustment. I doubt the steel cable stretches, but for sure we know the clutch plates wear.

Are you aware that the clutch cable is adjustable at both ends? Also, I usually shift to neutral and let the clutch lever out when stopping for more than a few
seconds.

Yes, I am aware. I have maxed out the major adjustment at the clutch. I have a bit left at the lever. A mechanic had looked at it and recommended replacement a few months back. I have done a number of slow speed classes and done moto gymkhana over the years so it has had more than average abuse. These things also beat up the clutch. I have a spare cable in my inventory. Planning to replace the cable when I do the next air filter. I had not heard of a lot of cable replacements so I asked out of curiosity. If the cable doesn't fix it, the clutch will be next.

The training I have done does not recommend shifting to neutral for emergency evade and escape maneuvers. No judgement on those who do it differently. Just like motorcycle gear. We all make personal decisions about how we ride and live with the choices we make.

The symptoms I noticed was that the bike was pulling with the clutch pulled in. I could hold it but was also hard to put into neutral when in gear. Small adjustment at the handle to start. When I ran out of the small adjustment there is larger adjustment at the clutch end.
