Extreme Farkling - Flat Luggage Rack

I checked too. I guess they discontinued them but found it here 4999-001-201 Krauser Widening Aluminum Plate

I like where you mounted the lights under the flat rack as long as whatever you carry on the flat rack doesn't obscure them.

Yes, I will have to be careful of that. I still like the Krauser plate better, but I am too deep into this one now. I think it will be fine. Thanks for the link. I had not heard of them before.

That was a good idea to eliminate the $150 top plate from honda, I am going to use a 55 litre hepco becker top box or a shad or givi, armed with your idea I'll only need a small peice of aluminum or stainless plate to mount the givi/shad mounting plate, we save $150.

Thanks for that great idea Beemer!

Excuse me, but I think you need to check your maths. Beemer is still using the specific arm (1111FZ) from Givi to fit the "custom" plate. More over, to fit a Givi top case on top of that plate, you would need to screw a Givi M5 plate on top of the custom one. It would be the same if you buy a Kappa top case or similar if you fit a Shad or Becker one.

Furthermore, the Givi M5 plate is cheaper than the one fitted by Beemer

I like Beemer's idea, but I believe your maths are wrong.

BTW, it seems to me you want a big top case, don't forget to check the Kappa K53 one: K53 - Baúles

I think we both misunderstood, You can use the side arms from givi or honda and cut your own peice of flat iron, aluminum, corian, wood and bolt it to the side arms eliminating the $150 top plate that Honda sells, Shad cases and givi monolock cases come supplied with a mounting plate to bolt onto the home made/cut flat material that you can supply yourself for pennies.
I misunderstood Beemer, I thought he was using Hondas side arms, I wasn't aware givi made a top box kit for the NC.

I will be paying for my NCDCT tomorrow, but don't think I can bring it home because of the drive chain thing. So I still a little green.

Your excused...

Your excused Duk, I think we both misunderstood. It sounded like you can buy the side brackets only and mount any flat peice of diamond plate of any configuration and save the cost of the base plate, you can then buy a Shad or Givi monolock top box, both those include the base plate.

Anyway, I use a top box daily, I find them more convenient on daily errands than side luggage and work great on overnighters for me. I'm leaning toward the Hepco-Becker 55 litre junior and their mount rack for a total of about $440.
I'm all about function over form. AND, I don't even have it yet, I was given a price of $9235 OTD on an NCDCT, I plan on paying for it today but don't think I can take it home because of the chain, one thing making me a little nervous is the serial number is 00045, sounds like one of the 1st ones made..

Maybe we all three misunderstand. The side brackets can be bought as 1111KIT with no provision at all for a rear rack at all or with 1111FZ which has arms to the rear and flat mounting flanges upon which you can bolt either the flat rack of your choice or the Givi topbox base.

Dats what I'm talkin bout, to buy both peices from Honda is $300, you would save $150 if you made your own plate, maybe, and its seems most the after market option for rack and rails are about 1/2 price of the Honda rig.

I'm done....

ETA: My goodness, I may have misled again. I just cannot think in Italian. I went back to my invoice and can now report the following using Solomotoparts pricing: The side brackets (PLX1111 at $229 for the V35 bags - or - PL1111 at $199 for the other Monokey bags) can be bought with (not as) the 1111KIT ($40) with no provision for a rear rack at all or with 1111FZ ($106) which has arms to the rear and flat mounting flanges upon which you can bolt either the flat rack of your choice or the Givi M5 topbox base ($62). The V35 bags (which I am a big fan of) are $545 in matte black or $610 in bright silver metallic.

I went and paid for my NCDCT today but now I'm waiting on the chain recall parts to show up, they say maybe friday or maybe not till monday, oh well I think I got a good deal at 9340 OTD and 15% off accessories, I ordered the center stand, back ordered till nov 7th, was going to get the honda topbox setup but that was back ordered till dec 10th! I need the bike for a planned vegas trip on nov. 5th so I came home and ordered the Hepco Becker 55 litre junior and the xc rack with mount,
total shipped was $440, the website says they have 2 more boxes and 1 more rack for the XC incase anybody is interested. It is amotostuff.com, Givi doen't have any mounts either so this may be the last one available in the world. I've never used hepco becker but they seem very durable, double wall construction and comes with floor mat, water proof, 2 latches one each side and lock if needed setup so you don't need to fumble with a key every time you open or close.

I will post pics next week in a new thread when the rack and box show up and I get them installed.

Quick question which I'd sure to make this even more confusing.. Since my GF will be leaning against the top box quite a bit, is either of these mounting methods less sturdy?

The Honda one looks rock solid. Just curious if these other arms coming from other points are going to be solid enough.

The Givi and Hepco-Becker andKappa products are as top notch as Honda, I beleive Kappa is a Givi subsidiary and does alot of accessory luggage for many Motorcycle manufacurers. Don't ever trust one of those fleebay $50 knockoffs even it is mounted on a quality rack. But you can trust the noted brands, they also sell a back pad for most box models as an option.

Finally got one in the "finished" column. Nothing left to do on the flat luggage rack. I installed the 3-1/2" x 10" tool tube underneath it (for tire and bike repair items) and finalized the wiring. It looks tall because it is on my maintenance stand, but in the last (side view) shot you can see that everything is tucked in as low and close as it will go. I am very satisfied with it. The stock tail light assembly has been voted off the island. The Whelen tail/stop/turn takes over for it. The center is tail and brake and the outer ends are amber turn signals. There is a white light underneath the rack that provides license plate illumination. The side lights are Whelen high/low red used as tail and turn. The two lights at the sides of the license plate are by Custom Dynamics and operate as tail and brake with alternated turn signals. See my controls thread if you want to know what an alternated turn signal is. The license plate is lifted up and brought rearward leaving enough fender to mount the Yosemite Sam mud flap in the desired position. The end of the mud flap is about an inch higher than the top of the original rear fender was.

Extreme is a good way to put it. Anyone want to take bets on what is left stock on this bike when Lee runs out of stuff to tweak?

Seriously, I wish I had your skills and creativity. You will certainly have a one of a kind bike when your done.....if your ever done.

I've learned a lot from the Farkle Master.

Well, he said he will not touch the engine! LOL

Well, a custom auto-clutch would be nice (like a Rekluse or EFM), but I won't mess with the fuel path (PGM FI, heads, cams, exhaust). That is really the main thing that attracted me to this little bike and I think they have done it well. I also like the strong frame, low center of gravity, and long(ish) travel suspension. Just about everything else needs help.

Yeah! That's the title!

In keeping with beemerphile's German heritage, I'd prefer das farklemeister, but pride goeth before a fall, so I'd really prefer we just stick to "beemer" or what my mom (mum) calls me.

Ok, beemer. BTW, if I were you I would speak with the webmaster, in each one of your posts there is a "#1 Elite / SuperMod" label bellow your nick. I have no problem with "#1 Elite", but Rocker66 could be confused with the "SuperMod" label... L O L

Yep, those are both admin generated titles. I jumped in before anyone else when the Elite was offered, and Dennis entrusted me with the moderator badge and a toy gun. So Rocker best make sure his aim is straight if he comes gunning for me. However, I sold my scooter and I only ride "proper" motorcycles now, so I should be fine.
