Many years ago, in the northern portion of middle-earth, I purchased a Magellan Mestro 3140. For 5+ years, its seen map and firmware update (I want to keep my carbon footprint small, and I dislike chucking stuff "just because"). I recently decided the battery was due for replacement, and as I tooled around online, I found 'battery replacement kits' that seemed a bit pricey and more than I really need, so I took a deep breath and fought to open up the critter.
After removing 4 tiny screws from the back, I had to fight with separating the shells, thanks to 6 very stubborn retaining clips. With battery in hand, I was able to order an equivalent unit from Amazon.
The replacement battery arrived today, and it took no time to install since it was sitting on my desk in pieces since the crack of Friday. I'm super excited to see it holding its charge well, and though I question Magellan's insistence on using 6 retaining clips in addition to the 4 screws that hold it together, I will reassemble as if it were never tampered with.
I got pictures! It's alive!!!
