Nice day, worked from home in the morning so traffic was good. Left I-405 to get on the 520, shifted up coming off the ramp and my lever felt weird. Downshift to accelerate into traffic and no shift lever. WTF?? Glance down - there it dangles by the linkage. Up ahead there is a really wide shoulder across 4 lanes of traffic - I am at speed so I move over and pull off. Its about as safe as can be. I get the bike stopped and take a look. The shift lever bolt is gone, everything else is still attached and there I am stranded. So I call road side assistance and call a towtruck. I'm going to be here for 60 to 90 minutes waiting on the side of the road. That bolt is a half mile back across 4 lanes of busy traffic, nothing to do but wait right? I take a little walk and there safely on the shoulder of my side of the road is the lost bolt. Do I have the right sized allen wrench, Yup sure do! 5 minutes later I tell the cop that pulled over that all is cool and call off the tow truck.

Maybe that is why the manual says to replace it if removed.I don't know or just one of those things that happen.

Check mine and it was tight. I removed and applied blue Loctite. It's not coming off now. I also checked the foot lever bolt and found that it had next to nothing for grease so off it came. Regreased and also applied Loctite to it as well. I could see that one coming loose from the constant up/down shifting and would result in the same "sitting on the side of the road" condition.

Hey Dan, you lost the foot shift lever bolt right, #12? When I took mine off to grease it there is a washer behind it #15. Did you reinstall it? I used loctite on #11 and #12.

Leaving with OCR in a couple of days for the WABDR, goning to double check mine too.

How fortunate you found the bolt and were able to get things fixed. It's great you had a safe place to pull off the highway. What could have been a very bad situation turned out OK.

Wow! You found the bolt AND had the right size wrench? You should buy a lottery ticket tonight. ;)

Or he used up a lifetime's worth of luck right there on the side of the highway and should be afraid even to buy green bananas, lest he be thought thumbing his nose at Fate.

I'm going to have to get those washers and regrease that bolt. Improper lubrication is probably what caused it to work its way out over time.
