I went back and re read.... OK... a relay is there to interrupt the circuit even when the on/off switch is on. That's convenient. Makes it impossible to leave the lamps on when the key is off.
I have that problem with the GPS circuit as it has no relay. If i leave the gPS plugged connected to its USB port, it will drain the battery even when the key is off.
I think I'll leave the relay out as it would require tapping into the existing electrical. I've done that under the rear seat where electrical is easy to get at.
It's not easy to get at near the headlight.
Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction with this. I did read those things the first time, but I hadn't thought about it enough yet to process the information. A long walk to Starbucks fixed that.
