Yeah I saw that for me it's not so much about the 19inch front wheel(would be nice) more than it is about being able to increase ground clearance and bring the geometry back to stock after raising the rear and then being able to adjust preload after upgrading the front fork internals. I can deal with 8 inches of ground clearance which is what I have now. The upper triple from RR would unable me to do that. Right now the front is a little too twitchy at times in headwinds on the highway otherwise I like the handling. Looks like it would be pretty simple to convert the NC just like the cbx as the parts seem to be interchangeable.

I would like to know what that guy did to get a 19 to fit.

What is the difference between changing the dog bones vs a longer rear shock or does it basically have the same affect?

I need to measure my ground clearance to see what it is. I scrape the skidplate now and again but it hasn't been an issue.
Being able to adjust the front preload would be great.

Yes to change "dogbone" raises only bike:
Mounting a 20 mm longer shock absorbers, type Wilbers +20, extends the suspension travel of 65 mm and increase the bike 35-40 mm. (my goal)

I build a front wheel, KTM hub (shaft 25mm) Did rim "flat track 2.50x19 and an oversize disc 320mm (the same as the original NC 320 mm) :)
I lathes two spacers!

These two are to the rear wheel on my Varadero XL 1000 rally, but that suited my NC, simple process.

The front wheel I want to use has a 310mm disc !!!!.
I'm looking now to see if there is a 320mm disc that will fit it !!.

You say that you used a KTM hub with a 25mm shaft ( axle ) !!.
How did you get that to fit the NC forks that use a 20mm axle ???.

I believe that's what the two lathed spacers are for; the inside diameter is necked down to fit the Honda axle, while the outside diam is to fit the KTM hub.

Now that makes sense!!
I just found that a GSXR,TL1000 etc front rotors bolt right up to the DL1000 wheel and they are 320mm ....
Now to find a DL wheel I can afford!!.

I forgot to mention, at the stage on the previous photo he did use fork extenders and didn't touch rear suspension other than set higher tire. After that he upgraded the bike again with front forks from DRZ-400, but I can't find anything about rear suspension.

It looks awesome

Good stuff

If you haven't already, check out JDRocks posts over on ADV forum, he has extensive knowledge and cool tips/tricks for wheel and suspension swaps using Suzuki stuff going over to his Versys/650 Ninja bikes over the years- maybe one of those posts can help track down a 1000 wheel somewhere?

I have the Aprilia rear shock on mine with a RaceTech spring so I'm good with just " jack up " links if necessary.

I will also probably buy the 2" fork extensions even though I will probably only need 1",better safe than sorry!!.

So I actually spoke to Jenny Morgan from Rally Raid last year at Overland Expo. She had just ridden or was in the process of riding the CB500x across the TAT and I gave her all the gouge I could on the 700 and told her its weaknesses as I have experienced them over about 1500 (ish) miles off-road and compared it to the KLR and DR cousins and basically pleaded with them to come out with a kit for the 700. I told her that the 500 was nice for Europe, but for the states, the distances people tend to travel made the 700 so much nicer.

Anyway, the jist I got from her was that Rally Raid was not really interested in the expenditure of cash to pursue this for the 700. I am not saying that it could not have changed, but I left with no great hope of them producing anything more than a small bolt on here and there, because that is what she told me would be the maximum of what they would do. (Her words).

The long and the short is that my money is on us having to build this thing ourselves.

Since I moved to Miami the 700X is great, on the tarmac for which it was really intended, but displaced though I am, my adventure riding days are far from behind me, but I wouldn't take the NC back on Get Out to Garrapata or anything more than some rocky fire roads again, especially not while trying to keep pace with more capable bikes, it just wore me out, and it wore the bike out frankly.

If someone can put this together and come up with a functional swap then the NC is the best thing out there, if not, its going to have to be Africa Twin for me..

I'm convinced that the Vstrom wheel swap should work great and be the cheapest way to go even at current eBay prices.

AltRider took my NC tonight to do some final fittings on several products and left we with this to ride !!.
After a ride on this 160HP so called ADV bike I'm even more convinced that a 19" front on our NC's is the way to go for a great ADV bike.

Imo the NC is much better to dump money into to make it off road worthy better motor characteristics, lower center of gravity more stock suspension travel in the rear, more torque which is what you want in a adventure bike when you off road and no need for racks for the minimalist because of the frunk. And it's only 35 lbs heavier. No doubt the NC can be fitted to be every bit as capable if not more so than the stage 3 kit you just have to source out the parts and do all the leg work. I think something similar an be done with the NC fork internals that they did with the cb forks using the kit they make. If you have a 12 model like me your head of the game because it has 6 inches of travel up front and in the rear. Newer models have 5.4 in the forks and 5.9 in the rear

Is there a go by for how to complete such a swap? It's clear that it's possible, but my concerns are also in suspension travel and creating an appropriate fender for the new wheel. I would also want to run tubeless, but that's just a matter of purchasing those wheels.

Granted all these changes we are proposing will affect things like the CG, damping, road handling etc. truth be told it makes me nervous to make said changes considering Honda designed the bike one way with lots of people smart on these things, and I am neither Honda nor smart on Motorcycle handling or durability characteristics.

That said regarding the suspension travel, I wonder if that was just a change in manuals and I actually have the same travel you do, as I understand it there are no other changes in part numbers. Either way, trust me when I say if you are riding with DR 650s and KLRs at any kind of speed off road it will not make a difference, you will still get smoked.

We are not attempting anything that RR doesn't do for the 500x !!
I'm sure a 19" front will slow down the steering a bit but we will be running a narrower front tire so we might get some of it back.
