(whispering) when I ride I find that I have to make frequent stops to... er..."drain the crankcase". Do any of you wear kidney belts or have any other helpful hints? I try to minimize the addition of fluids but in the hot weather sweating under gear this isn't always possible

Looking forward to all the sarcasm from those of you under 50.

Well, I don't think a kidney belt would actually help with your need for "frequent stops". I really don't have any suggestions that would help, but I am wondering if this high frequency has always been an issue or if it is relatively recent, and if you have spoken to your doctor about it. That would be my suggestion.

I can't offer any particular advice for your situation (yet). I will say in general, don't limit your fluid intake, it's better to be over hydrated than dehydrated. If you have to take frequent stops, so be it. Consider it marking your territory.

There's always the extreme that some cannonballers take... a catheter... which sounds... not great.

As we get older these things happen but riding really exaggerates it. I would say that that the frequency is about 45 minutes.

You could look on the bright side. If you have the stock seat your backside won't get sore! Actually, as one who will hit the 65 mark soon I figure it just goes with the territory. I just hope there's a rest stop or a nice big bush available when needed.

Rest stops are nice. Kind of hard to hide behind a bush with all that hi viz gear on. Even if you take it off a lone bike sitting by the side of the road draws suspicions quickly. I usually plan my rides around places I can stop.

Back in the 80's I had an older Harley that beat me to death on rides between San Diego and L.A., I was advised to wear a kidney belt, no help at all. What I did discover is to stay away from caffeine of any kind (I'm a tea drinker and this is hard) for at least an hour before I take a long ride. Drink only water while I'm riding and chew gum to keep your mouth and throat from drying. Seems to have helped me a lot.....or you can do like I did and move to a place so hot that you never need to stop because you sweat yourself into dehydration by just walking out the door, but at least you get to ride all year.

lol!!! On a serious note, I would get it check out bro. It doesn't sound like a motorcycle issue. However, I do get Viagra like symptoms when riding my NanCy. ;)

Only an issue if it happens when looking at or just thinking about your NanCy.

get to the doctors as soon as you can and get it checked.
no matter how trivial it may seem.
I was 56 at the time and I frequent going to the loo.
twice in the night and about every hour or less blah blah.
I thought it was me just getting older..
to cut the story short.
they found that I had cancer in my left kidney so had it removed.
I was very lucky..I had no pain or any thing to say I had some thing wrong with my kidney except going to the loo more than I used to.
the surgeon said if they hadn't found it then I wouldn't be typing this now!
I don't mean to alarm you but get it checked.

The frequent urination is a healthy sign that your body is adequately hydrated. I'm in the country with lots of trees so it doesn't present a problem:)

If you aren't urinating much, in hot weather, it means that you need more fluids. Stay away from sugary, salt filled energy drinks, like Gatorade as they are terrible for you!!

Sam:)

Depends. You laugh but I hear it is done more than we think. I stop to relieve myself in the woods all of the time....no biggie. Out west it's a little more challenging since there aren't trees in some places. If I gotta go, I gotta go. Just don't face the highway when lettin her rip....ya know what I mean?
Mike

Limit the amount of caffeine. On hot days, drinking water and non-caffeinated drinks should not cause more urination trips. Caffeine is a dierutic (which causes urination, loss of water). I also loosen my belt when riding the bike, less pressure on the kidneys and bladder slows down the need for urination (for me anyways).

Thanks for all your responses. I WILL mention it again to the Doc. I don't get up to go at night and usually it's not a problem. Just on the bike. Happened on the scooter also but that had less engine vibe than the NC but was very bumpy due to minimal suspension.

Thanks
