Question

Is the actual trunk itself the same for all years? It looks the same (silver one) in all the photos I see.

The carrier I understand is different but the trunk itself?

if you mean the lid, then the answer is no, it is different.
Take a look at the microfiche, most of the parts have different part numbers

I think the OP was asking about the top box that mounts on the luggage rack. If so, it my understanding that for all model years so far the top box was the same and not available in any other colors.
