Within a week of King Charles III swearing in as Britain’s new ruler, BMW’s gone and crowned a successor for their iconic R nineT fleet, continuing “100 years of BMW Motorrad fascination and tradition seamlessly.”

“The R nineT and its customizing concept established the new Heritage experience for BMW Motorrad’s 90th birthday and has become an indispensable cornerstone of our model range,” enthuses Dr. Markus Schramm, the current Head of BMW Motorrad.

The new R 12 nineT consistently continues the successful heritage story surrounding the legendary BMW boxer engines with an even more classic, reduced design language, even greater degrees of freedom when it comes to customizing, and, last but not least, new and innovative technology.”

Considering many wanted the circa-2013 R nineT to stay, BMW’s homage to keeping the next-gen R 12 nineT classy and true to her fanbase paid off; BMW’s release shows the usual 1200 boxer heart (hence the “12” in the name), decked out in a new pipe system, redesigned air intake and swanky new fender.

The clear tank/seat/rear pays homage to BMW’s desire for a classic roadster, “in the style of the traditional /5 or the legendary R 90 S of the ’70s,” per contribution from Edgar Heinrich, BMW’s head of design.

“As is tradition, attractive customization options are offered as part of the original BMW Motorrad accessory range,” finishes the press release.

“With customizing in mind, the new R 12 nineT also features an LED rear light unit integrated into the seat, which now makes it easy to realize a ‘short tail.’”

Stay tuned, as BMW will be giving more details in the second half of this year.
