    Madstad deflectors install

That's exactly what the deflectors did for me too.

PA to WA need accessory advice

If you're going to ride in a lot of rain, I've been using the Oxford handlebar muffs for the last 3 months very successfully. Very few gloves will stay waterproof over a few hours riding in rain. Plus it makes the heated grips much more effective.

    Madstad deflectors evaluation.

To add my 2cents, I upgraded my Madstad by adding the side deflectors because I could never completely get rid of a drumming type of buffet around the head and neck and too much air was hitting my lower torso from under the shield. The deflectors have corrected both issues 100%. I don't quite...

The biggest obstacle has been overcome...permission

I already have 3 cars (all used) and didn't want to buy a 4th. But the major benefit is, as geesantoz said, the time savings. Motorcycling to NYC is faster and cheaper than a car and faster than the bus. It would be faster still if lane splitting was legal in NJ and NY.

Rear tire worn out at 3600 miles: underinflation or something else?

My vote is defective tire. If this was caused by a user modification, whatever did it would be obvious if it grooved that tire so severely. The only other possibility I can think of is a long sharp piece of road debris that somehow reached up to the side of the tire and sliced it. But I think...

    Seat mod......slope change

I'll probably use a metal strap and just bend that. It's just that that U-bracket looked so elegant.

    Seat mod......slope change

If that's the case, what tool do I need to make such a nice bend in a length of thick aluminum like that. I'm assuming it's aluminum.

Tight chain causes better gas mileage?

    exactly right.

Your mirror might be the cause of your buffeting noise

I agree with you. The combination of a Madstad Adventure screen, Barkbuster Storm hand guards and the stock mirror was causing all my turbulence. I could feel it just by tracing the turbulence with my hands from underneath the screen up through the hand guards and the mirror and hitting me in...

    Seat mod......slope change

Mark, where did you get that aluminum (?) U-shaped bracket. I looked for something similar in Home Depot and on-line, but no luck.

    Madstad Windshield

Same here. Barkbuster Storms, 22" Madstad Adventure screen and 2" Rox risers. No clearance issues with the screen set to 55 degrees. However, I had to tilt the handlebars back a little to get this clearance.

Tight chain causes better gas mileage?

Just to close the loop, as others suspected, I didn't notice any mpg improvement after tightening the chain a little more. I can't explain why it improved the first time.

Getting beat up while on the highway...why?

The Madstad is the way to go if you want the quietest ride. I've had one for about a year now and was generally happy with it, but still got some buffeting and a lot of wind hitting my lower torso. I just added the side deflectors (weren't available when I originally bought it), which improved...

    Vibration resistant small flashlight???

Hmm. I'll take a look at the Fenix and Streamlight as well. I like good flashlights.

    Vibration resistant small flashlight???

I think the reason mine is short-lived is the top case is attached to the frame and the flashlight is attached directly to the top case. I bought door insulation (basically 1" wide by 3/8" thick foam strip) and will try to put that between the flashlight and the top case to see if that fixes...

    Vibration resistant small flashlight???

I keep a small flashlight velcro'd to the bottom inside my honda top case for night time use (check tires, pressure, frunk, find keyhole, etc.). But the NC700X's suspension is so jarring, that it ruins most of them in short order. I tried 3 or 4 so far and they didn't last long. I had one...

Prior bike to NC700 and thoughts on transition

Previous: 2003 Kawasaki klr650; Kept it for 4 years, until 2013 Pros: - Huge gas tank - 45mpg x 6.6g = 297 mile range. - Suspension - I thought my streets were smooth until I switched bikes. Turns out we have really bad roads. - Easy to maintain. - Comfortable, uncramped seating...

Klim Latitude Jacket and Pants or Other High End Gear?

I didn't get the pants though. I commute and needed rain-proof overpants with zippered sides so I can take it off easily and store in my frunk after I get to work. I got the Olympia Ranger 3 pants. Also 1.5 years ago and also still very happy with them.
