I changed my oil for the 600 mile service when the local shop wanted to charge me $300 for my first service and decided to wait to check on the valves until 8k as my bike is whisper quiet. Good idea, bad idea, or doesn't matter until noisy?
Oh! So that explains the trail of oil I'm leaving...
I have never had so many things conspire against me when trying to do one simple oil change. Haha
I just figured I'd share my ingenious method for getting the oil filter off from my first oil change. (I had a plastic filter socket that fit, but I stripped the plastic in the socket...so much fun. hahaha)
My '02 Buell Blast came with the barely baffled pro series exhaust (not for street use) and my neighbors despised me. Leaving at 6am every morning I'm pretty sure I woke up the entire neighborhood. I rode with earplugs in until I was able to get a stock exhaust on it...and then I continued to...
670- Yes, like an idiot, this was done with a 12 point because I didn't have a 6 point in my set...so I went out to buy one last night. I managed to crack it with the 6 point, but I'm awaiting my replacement drain bolt and crush washer before I do my oil change. Even though I figured it likely...
So the dealer wasn't going to be able to get me in for my 600 mile service until almost June and I already have 660 miles on the bike. I figured since it's already had the oil in there for 3 years from the factory and I want to keep riding, I should do the oil myself and just let them show me...
These are all solid suggestions. So long as there are no complaints, I'm going to hijack this thread a bit and ask if any of you have problems with bike stability away from home? I work at a university and like to ride in however, my bike has been knocked over not one, not two, but three times...
I'm a bad person, I'd have purchased a service manual online in pdf form because I prefer to be able to search it on my tablet when doing maintenance, but the only places I could find it were for free. :/
As for the drive chain recall, it was in the records from the dealership as occurring...
I haven't had my NC700 long so I'm not familiar with the quirks of it yet. Does anyone know what might produces a slight, constant scraping noise when the bike is in neutral? The noise goes away when the clutch is pulled in and it's too soft to hear over road noise when in other gears so I'm not...
So consensus is that it probably doesn't matter too much and the polaris stuff will likely do the job about as well as anything else? If anyone has a video or tutorial for how to actually clean the chain on the NC with a sidestand I'd be very appreciative!
I hate to beat a dead horse, but can someone point me in the direction of a good chain lube comparison thread? I'm at 225 miles now and am thinking that it likely needs it. The PO had never lubed the chain and the dealer was derelict of their duties to out the door maintenance. I have zero...
So as a relatively novice rider (3 years riding a Honda Elite 110, 1 year on a motorcycle, 3 days on the NC-700x) with no dirt bike experience, I should totally be able to take the NC off road, right?
Hmmm...plasti dip huh? I probably won't get around to that as a project until summer. In the meantime I'll give the S100, Bike Spirits, and Lemon pledge a try. I might also try some of the Pro Honda motorcycle cleaner and polish mention in previous posts.
