Mounting Tool Tubes inside of Givi panniers

I have been testing loading configurations and loaded to ride gas mileage in prep for my SD strip and the bike still balances on the front wheel and centerstand. This is the first trip with side cases. Before I got by with top case and a duffle dry bag on the rear seat. If I push down on the top case it will tip back onto the rear wheel but it's natural balance is front biased even when loaded. When I measured cargo weight I am at 46 lbs plus weight of Givi cases.

The Trekker bags must be heavy. I can put on my Givi E36 side cases and E460 top case (empty) and the bike still balances on the front wheel and Honda centerstand.

Yup same here,E36's and a full 2 gallon RotoPax and the rear wheel still in the air.

Not sure. I didn't see any dimensions in the description. The 30oz MSR bottles has a little wiggle room in there, but not much. I have some picture of them in, in my gallery.

Thanks, I like the idea of the extra 5 oz of fuel, but it may not be worth it if it doesn't fit.

OK, I finally got my tool tubes from Agri supply today. I mounted them a little different, lowering the back end. I wanted to make sure nothing came out if the cap came off.

To prevent this, you can drill thru the cap and base with a 1/4 inch drill and push a ball detent locking pin thru the hole.

The MSR fuel bottle is a tight fit under the turn signal. If I mounted my tool tubes higher the bottles wouldn't fit.

It's not apparent from the side view but how mine are mounted bends that flat tab with the three holes a little bit to the inside. When you unscrew and screw on the cap it rubs against the tab - it won't unscrew without a small amount of force so don't worry about it coming adrift on it's own.

I mounted two on the front of my Givi engine guards, I have a complete tool kit for adjusting and lubeing the chain, some assorted wrenches, extra fuses & a headlight bulb, and a Stop & Go tire repait kit in them. I bought some aluminum plate off ebay and mounted the tube to it, then used 1" clamps to mount the plate to the guard. I also mounted one on each side where the passanger pegs were-I removed them. In front of the saddle bags. I can use them for water or gas, also there is room in them for extra maps. That way, I can get to the maintance items without removing everything from the frunk. Also I did not feel comfortable carring a spray can of chain lube in the frunk.

Would love to see pics of this.

Just an update...got my msr fuel bottle today. It was not hard at all getting it in the tube...just pushed down on the rubber mounted turn signal a little bit, and it opened up the path very nicely to slide the fuel bottle in to the tube.

My tubes are mounted diagonally on the inside of the givi racks which is a little different from the horizontal mount most are doing so I wasn't sure if the fuel bottle would fit in the tubes past the rear turn signals.

I just did a search for tool tubes with Honda side cases / panniers / saddlebags. I could not find anything. Anyone know of anyone doing something like this with that setup?

Are the fuel tubes really for gasoline? Is there any kind of issue with expansion or venting?

The tubes are for an MSR fuel bottle... which is rated to carry gasoline, kerosene, coleman stove fuel, etc. Some of which are more volatile than regular unleaded.

I wouldn't worry about those bottles having an issue unless you managed to fill them on a cold cold winter day, and then rode out into the desert during the heat of summer...
and even then I don't think they'd have an issue unless you over filled the bottle.

They are also designed to fail at the O-ring on the cap now, so if they do over pressurize they will "vent" so long as they are stored upright (or at an angle such that there isn't fuel against the o-ring)

The few failures of the bottles I can find online involved them being connected to a camping stove (O-ring on the cap removed to hook up to the stove) and exposed to too much heat from the stove (KaaBOOM).
