SGT at the dragon

I'm in... I know some real nice roads in the area. I could take everyone on a very nice 100ish mile loop in the area..

Ok, so two of the campsites that people have been interested in Hunts and Fontana Dam. I emailed Hunts and they only one group fire pit and a couple of little small areas. While Fontana has a fire pit at every spot. So with that said, I'm leaning towards staying at Fontana dam.

I have to let everyone know of another camping spot. The campground I have had many Motorcycle rallies at is in Tellico Plains. It is about an hours ride to Deals Gap...but the ride is awesome. This campground is $10.00 a night and for another $10.00 he will have a tent set up for you with sleeping bags, cots and chairs. Food is at the campground plus there is a very good diner 1 mile from the campground. Here is the link.....CMTrails My wife and I have a blast here.

A couple options for places to stay. For lodging Fontana Village is just a couple miles from the dam and campground. A couple good motels in Robbinsville: are Microtel and Two Wheels Inn. Two Wheels Inn is a motel with a small garage next to each room to keep a couple bikes out of the weather. Also Deals Gap has both motel rooms and camping.

Starting at the Dragon on a Saturday in May at 10:00 AM expect plenty of traffic if weather is good. If the gathering point is on the Tennessee side those staying at any of the above places need to ride the Dragon to get to the starting point.

HWY 28 for 21 miles from Deals Gap going past Fontana Dam is a great ride known as the Hellbender. All of 28 going into South Carolina is known as Moonshiner 28. When I have taken groups to the Dragon from the south most prefer the Hellbender to the Dragon itself, so if staying at Fontana you will be in the middle of a great ride. The Dragon isn't the best road in the area, just has the best PR. Surfers need to go to Big Sur, Catholics need to go to the Vatican, Red Necks need to go to Talladega and bikers need to ride the Dragon.

No matter the forecast, it is a good idea to pack some rain gear riding in the mountains.

Unfortunately I am already scheduled to be there the week before with a gathering of MP3s and probably can't get back the next weekend to meet up with this group. The MP3 gathering is staying at The Two Wheel Inn and riding the area for 4 days. I expect to see lots of pictures and stories here after the meetup.

Thanks for the great info.

I'm in. Camping. Don't care where. Still leaving my options open as to whether I will trailer it there or ride it, but I'll be there with the NC either way.

I'm in for 1. Figure I'll stay at Fontana Dam campground which I probably need to make reservations soon.
I'll arrive Friday and leave out Monday.

Sorry to say, I'm out. Couldn't get anyone to cover at work for the weekend. Will probably hit that area after the 20th of this month though. Hope you all have a blast!

I reserved Fontana Dam tent site tonight. Arrive Fri, leave Mon. Could come Thurs if I "had" to. Since no site selection took place during the reservation process, I assume it first come, first pick?

I would like to share a site along with the cost, instead of paying to be on my own. Is that possible?

I'm sure something can be worked out. Let me see if they limit the number of tents on a site, some places are funny like that.

How long are you planning on staying? I'll be arriving Friday and leaving Sunday.
