Hi,

I could not believe that Honda would sell a new motorcycle with only a cheapie screwdriver and a plastic tubing-covered wire in the tool bag. I would like a tool kit that has wrenches like my ST1100 has. Does Honda sell a tool kit that is not too overpriced that doesn't take up too much room? I think I remember that the European NCX bikes have a tool kit. Is there a Honda parts number for it?

of all the new bikes I've had..I've never use them..
yes Rocker I to had new bikes to

You might want to replace the phillips bits in that kit as they are probably American phillips and not JIS. There is enough of a difference between them that when you get a tight screw the American phillips can strip it. Somebody ran into that with one of the srews for the tail light as it is on tight. Beemer had a link in another thread with a site that sells JIS bits.
RJRCOOLTOOLS

I'm sure there are other places that also sell them.

Again on beemer's advice, I got the Honda 22mm, 27mm eye wrenches and handle for on the road rear tire/chain emergency. Added in a few open end wrenchs that I had from old tool sets.

I just kinda made my own out of extra tools from odd kits I've acquired over the years and have them stuffed in a $.50 bag I got in the travel/sampler section of target. It's served me pretty well for many a years now and has transferred to each new bike.

I had my Honda dealer get me the Honda tools from the kit (ironically, the kit is listed in the parts books, but doesn't come with the bike in the USA). They got them for me very reasonably, and i find them to be the best option for me because:
1) They're the tools that actually fit the fasteners on the bike, rather than a generic selection,
2) They're extremely space efficient,
3) I don't really need a full set of tools for my uses of the motorcycle. If I did, though, I haven't seen anything from any motorcycle-oriented purveyor that I would choose over the kinds of tools I have in the toolbox at home.

YMMV

Thanks for the link. I went on BikeBandit.com, and found some less expensive alternatives to what is on the parts list that have Honda part numbers . I bought:

5mm Hex Wrench Part # 2922613 for $0.58
[Item] [Part Number] [Price]

SPANNER (8X10) 718971 $1.72

SPANNER (12X14) 2922615 $1.74

027049-6 HANDLE (120MM) 741390 $3.32

026822-7 WRENCH, EYE (22MM) 741392 $5.18

131153-9 WRENCH, EYE (27MM) 741395 $5.70

For a grand total of: $18.24

With my Dairyland Insurance discount of 10% and free shipping, it will cost me $16.42 for a basic tool kit that I can use to adjust the chain, tighten most any nut, bolt or screw on the bike.

I bought my X today and they handed me the kit with the screwdriver and cable in it,I handed it back !!.My Suzuki that I traded in had enough tools in the kit to do almost everything including taking all the body parts off, change the oil remove the wheels and the forks etc,etc....I will spend a day matching tools for what I need to do on the bike and make my own kit.I need enough to remove both wheels, change the oil and adjust the cables atleast.

Tool kits for Jap machines have always been fairly similar no matter what the make. What you're seeing is pretty much standard and has been so for many a year.

just checked mine bloody rubbish ,didn't even have a shock spanner and as always tool kit does not fit on any nuts snugly .
so your liable to round the buggers off and the allen key is a joke.
I'll make my own kit.and beside what maintenance are you likely to need?
of all the bikes I've had I've never broke down yet!
look after your bike..neglect at your peril .
