The Africa Twin is Back: CRF1000L Africa Twin Confirmed for 2015

I was enthusing about the AT for a while but I have gotten over it. As a genre it is too close to the Triumph Explorer that I have , albeit the Explorer will not be in the same league offroad. However my days of taking such a heavy bike offroad are behind me. I am now looking at the Rally Raid CBX again. Pity Rally Raid don't do a kit for the NC. That would solve my problem properly.

Nice vid showing large trail bikes being ridden by Expert riders. I was falling for it a few months back, but I have gotten over it now. I look forward to seeing it. I might even ride a demo, but at the end of the day it has an engine quite similar in function to my NC, but bigger. The only aspect that could possibly win me over now, would be the obviously better suspension. Even then I am not sure it would be worth the extra funds to be laid out. For now I am still on course to make improvements to my NC suspension and keep it. Rally Raid are expected to offer some bits shortly but otherwise it will be Cogent or Racetech and Wilbers.

I wonder what the suspension travel front and rear is on the new Africa Twin. Honda makes an effort to go out of it's way in not giving the suspension travel of the Africa Twin.

Honda only says that its suspension is "long travel."

Travel is probably not fixed yet and if they publish now and the production bikes differ people will have a problem with that.

It certainly is long travel in the close ups in the vid clip.

Africa Twin feels like a big brother to the NC, but seating position is better, not sure however how good it is when riding. I was the one of the first person to sit on it in Northern Europe and I have to say I loved it. No forward slope, knees angle was perfect, handlebars were perfect. I'm 188cm tall and the bike is just right for me (seat was on its highest position). I have pictures of the bike too, but I can't share them for obvious reasons, so I can't prove it, but I think its not necessary either. I've already proven that I don't lie, even though some members seem to think so and even call me an idiot :D

I like the Africa Twin also. It will not be in the USA until next spring. I was told by a friend who just retired from Honda that the Africa Twin will be in Europe in the early part of 2016. I have set on another bike, Suzuki 1000 Vstrom, that is almost the same seat height of the low position. I am on my toes, but I have a short inseam. Sure would like to have the Africa Twin.

What a sharp looking bike. For what I would be using it for, I think the NCX is a better tool for the job minus the ergonomics and I couldn't justify swapping.
I would be using the Africa Twin for two up and touring and wouldn't be taking it anywhere that I wouldn't take the NCX.
Hopefully, they will add cruise control and tubeless tires before I can add another bike.

Hmmmm, Africa Twin standard or DCT but no Cruise control, chain and tube tires or S10 with shaft drive, cruise control, tubeless tires and the additional weight.
Time will tell.

For me pretty much exactly the same daydreaming, lol

To be honest though, as much as I love the look and Honda awesomeness of this whole bike, realistically the thought of taking an even heavier, taller, much more expensive machine than my present NC700 off road, (no matter how much more obviously capable it is) I am left with too much imagination as to the outcome when I fall over in mid-creek, or halfway up a slippery trail, etc.

These would be my own failures and not the motorcycle's, but the outcome would be the same- an old and out of shape LBS either helplessly pinned under a beastly heavy contraption, or sobbing at the price of repairs, watching the thing tumble down a steep rocky path hahaha.

Based on these thoughts, my buddy's happiness with his Tenere and having ridden it myself, I would go for the cruise control, the shaft drive, the tubless tires, and the sheer plushness and comfort of the Yamaha for general duties and great touring capability. Hey, 26,000 mile valve check intervals isn't too shabby either.

The Super Ten does weigh an incredibly high amount, but if having picked it over the AT knowing that I wasn't going to be doing anything too tricky off pavement with it, the weight isn't as crucial anymore under that premise.

The Super ten is not really that bad and imho carries its weight well. If you ever get the opportunity to throw a leg over a Triumph Explorer and try to right it, then you will find out what really heavy is. I did the same with a ST and expecting it to be top heavy like my Triumph I got quite a surprise as to how easy it was.

Tempting as the AT is, I have decided to keep my little 700 and completely refurbish the suspension. Imho when that is done, it will be a better all rounder than the AT and for me, much easier to manhandle.

I was at the International Motorcycle Show at Long Beach on this past Saturday. The African Twin was there at the show, however it was drawing huge crowds making nearly impossible to get close enough to get decent photos of it. I did the best that I could with assaulting anyone. Here's a link to my album, 2016 Honda CRF1000L African Twin - Album.

I hope that these images are enough to satisfy some curiosity.

I have pictures of the bike too, but I can't share them for obvious reasons (Honda doesn't allow, if it wasn't obvious enough. I don't want to lose my contact, who have given me some really good information, like the NC750 rumour I told you guys this summer), so I can't prove it, but I think its not necessary either. I've already proven that I don't lie, even though some members seem to think so and even call me an idiot :D

I would be careful and sensitive with what your source shares with you and what you disclose to the general public. Both of you can get in trouble and have Honda pursue after you both with an army of attorneys. The risk of be sued into a "Poor House" is not an attractive thing to me.

That's my advise to you...
