My current brain bucket is a Shoei Neotec, a very nice helmet and I am totally happy with it! But why can't I stop looking at new crop of dual-sport helmets???

Top of list is the Schuberth E1, but the price!!

Then there is the Nexx XD1, half the price!

I should focus on getting a Cogent suspension upgrade...focus, focus, focus!

DS style helmets are great for vigorous off-roading, but IMO senseless for the street (other than style points). Too bad you can't rent one. The big visor is great for parting foilage and ducking roost, but a few hours of the visor trying to snap your neck off at 70 mph would probably put an end to it. In addition to the overdone visor, most DS helmets are very airy to ventilate all the sweat you are working up throwing the bike around - over-ventilated for sedate street riding. Also, the DS helmets have big facial openings to allow for the use of goggles. Another thing that doesn't make much sense on the street. I had a Schuberth (not a DS) and sold it at a loss because it was not comfortable to me. Fit is everything. Between my Arai RX-Q and my Neotec, I have all the street helmets I need. In fact, with either of them I"d have all the street helmets I need, but I like the RX-Q for its security and the Neotec for its handy features. I got rid of my Arai XD when the Husky TE610 left the stable.

But, you'd look the business.

I agree that I don't need a DS helmet and I would be better off getting an offroad helmet and goggles for exploring the mined land and local gravel roads. Plus I am too old to start caring about style points!

On the NC I only use my DS helmet when I'm riding dirt and then the only advantage for me is the beak helps with the glare when riding in and out of shadows on the heavily wooded roads. I don't like wearing sunglasses on those roads cause the shadows are too dark.
My DS helmet is a Cycle Gear Bilt with internal sun shield. It is pretty comfortable after I added a chin skirt and cut speaker pockets. Saved my head when I landed backward on a rock.
Have to say that Schuberth/Tourtech flip front DS helmet looks tempting.

I have a Bell Mag-9 that I sometimes wear when riding around the local gravel roads. It is a 3/4 helmet and I love the view of view that it offers, but worry about my chin if I happen to face plant on the gravel!

I new helmet will have to wait for awhile, I really want to talk seriously with Cogent Dynamics about a suspension upgrade (Christmas present for me!!!) and should do something with the seat.

FYI The Touratech version of the Nexx XD1 doesn't come with an internal sun visor, but the shell is carbon fiber instead of X-Matrix, both helmets are made by Nexx.

Touratech just announce a version of the Schuberth. They keep the internal sun shield, have more chin venting and the back is shaped to work with goggles strap.

Ahh! Thanks for the heads-up! Plus the active noise cancellation helmet from Sena. Too many choices and too little money! Hopefully Sena will release the Intelligent Noise Control separately, something like the 10U for the Neotec.

I've started looking at helmets that cost more than a dollar bill. Guess I'm moving on up.

I was really impressed with banjoferg's ability to answer the phone and conduct business and listen to music and stay on the road while we were riding back from the Grand Canyon. That is a lot of tech for me, but I guess it's time to join the 19th century.

Sometimes it's a curse to be so connected, and you have to be extra careful. I'm thankful for the technology though because if I couldn't stay connected to my business I wouldn't be able to ride so much.

BTW Itlives, NOLA was great and a great ride. You should check it out if just for the food.

Ha! Been in Louisiana for 43 years and never been down there. I'll meet you out west again!

I ride with a DS helmet, but I have the large Parabellium windshield and the wind goes over the top of my head. No problems on interstates, great field of view. Also use a Sena F5 with no problems.
