French motorcycle helmet Brand Roof has outdone themselves with this one.

Just as pillowcases have gone from cotton to bamboo, our good helmet industry is seeing a similar turn of events – though we’re pretty sure the choice of material is more for visual aesthetics than breathability.

Coverage from RideApart states that each helmet comes with a clear protective coating over the bamboo fibers, which are available in a gloss format, a matte one, and a nice variety of colorways to boot.

The Black option, by the way, uses squid ink.

Fantastic.

On to the meat and potatoes of this lid offering: The safety specs.

“Roof claims that the Bamboo helmet is just as safe as a standard polycarbonate shell,” contributes the report.

“The bamboo shell has been engineered to be flexible, resistant, and lightweight, with weight variances ranging from 1,220 grams to 1,320 grams depending on the size. Of course, the helmets have undergone independent testing, and are certified under the latest ECE 22.06 standard.”

Not bad.

We’re told the 1220g-1320g lid comes with an anti-scratch tinted visor, a quick-release micrometric buckle, an interior dressed in natural latex, and the addition of bamboo fiber pads to keep your noggin cushy.

Expect her to arrive in a recycled bag, retailing for €349 EUR (that translates to around $382 USD), with the promise to make you the highlight of the rally meet.
