Big Red’s six-time MotoGP champ is waiting a little while longer until he returns to the circuits proper – and fair, considering the lineup of bonks and breaks he’s had.

In the past few years alone, Marc Marquez’s list of anatomical woes includes the following (broken up by the year of the incident, pardoning the pun):

2020

  • Bad break to right arm; three separate surgeries required for reparation
    • Multiple battles with infection of the above injury
  • Bad break to humerus; titanium plate attached for reparation
    • Snapped titanium plate of the above injury; plate replacement required for reparation

2021

  • Head Injury causes diplopia diagnosis to return for the second time

2022

  • Multiple falls result in craniocerebral trauma diagnosis; diplopia returns again
  • Fourth surgery on the right humerus
  • Fourth surgery on the right arm (to conclude 2020’s wild ride)

2023

  • Fracture of the first metacarpal in the right hand

Suffice it to say the young Spaniard is likely not feeling so “young” anymore, though Marquez’s attitude has always been hopeful – albeit with a more current tone of caution.

“Yesterday we did another CT [scan], and it has been confirmed that, despite the fact that the injury is progressing favorably, the bone has not yet finished healing, and racing in Jerez was risky,” Marquez admitted, courtesy of coverage by Dustin Wheelen on RideApart.

“Together with the medical team, we decided not to take any risks, to wait two more weeks and return in Le Mans.”

As a fill-in on Marquez’s absence, we hear Team HRC rider Iker Lecuona will be filling in Marquez’s shoes and getting used to the pressure associated with the change of pace.

Wishing all the best to both as the year continues.
