I get about 6000 to 7000 miles out rd my front sprockets. I flip the sprocket half way through.
Looking at the front sprocket, I look for un-even shape of the front and rear of the tooth.

When mine feels funny/crunchy, I pull the pivot pin on the handle and lube the pin and the part that pushes the piston. Done it 4 times in 76000 miles.
