Cycle Gear grip heaters any good?

I put these on last fall, and they work fine. It was an easy install, and they get hot enough that I don't run them full blast. About 2/3 to 3/4 is all I need to stay warm.

    Premature chain wear ???

I am VERY disappointed with the factory chain. Low horsepower, sedate riding habits to promote gas mileage, good maintenance, and I am replacing it at 17K. It has one frozen link and another with the rusty dust of death. The original chain on my 02 Interceptor, which made twice the HP and was...

    Tutoro Oiler

I adjusted the flow to their specs, and have made only very minor changes. Everything stays relatively clean and I can detect no wear so far. It's really just remember to keep oil in the reservoir. I also installed one on my Blackbird. I don't put as many miles on it, but the strain on the...

    Tutoro Oiler

The not-so-great pics on Tutoro's website are mine. I fashioned a small wood block to mount to the round frame tube. I am very happy with the oiler so far. Currently about 12K miles since I installed it.

Correct Purolator PureONE filter for NC700

I have had a couple of late model cars whose manufacturers recommended 0 weight oil. I have used the Pure One filters and T6 Rotella in my vehicles for years. Thanks for the rebate link.

Looking for a nin HID headlight improvement

I have been using Silverstars and Ultras for years on my commuter bikes. They are usually good for only 12 to 15 months before they burn out. I always figured that the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and they made an enormous improvement on my ST1100, my FJR, and my...

How much gasoline You have put in when filling your tank?

I was coming home from work on Interstate 5 about a month ago and was less than a mile from my exit when the bike ran out of gas on a downhill. I was coasting along approaching the next hill, thinking about the fun I was going to have pushing the bike up the hill, off at the the ramp, and over...

    shoutout to beemerphile

If you have the Honda bags, just grab the lower support arm for the saddlebag and use it as your lift point. Left handlebar, support arm, and right foot on centerstand. Not as easy as my Blackbird, but not too tough.

    Vista Cruise Control

I bought a Vista Cruise from a guy on eBay, but it was the wrong model (my fault, not his) so I fabricated a little plastic part shaped like a T (to anchor the unit) , painted it black, and super-glued it to the switch housing. Otherwise, the installation and adjustment were simple, and it...

    Black leather Motorcycle Jacket

I have not seen Fox Creek, so I can't comment on them. The best quality leather and workmanship I have seen have been from Vanson, Dainese, and Gericke. They are also some of the priciest. I heard a rumor that Gericke may have folded. I have an Alpinestars, which I consider to be a step down...

    How many miles in 2012?

I put about 9K on my VFR800 before I sold it in early July. 4600 on the NXC which I bought in August and 3500 on the Blackbird. I commute to work roughly 67 miles per day, so I usually rack up 16 to 18K per year with about 3K being fun rides and the rest the commute. Oh yeah, probably 1000...

    Honda promotions for Winter 2012-2013

I financed 7K at 1.99 for 36 mos and it will cost me $200 in interest over the life of the loan. One extra point at 2.99 would certainly not be a deal-breaker for me. You're only talking a hundred bucks.

Repaint silver plastics to matte black

An old mechanic friend told me many years ago how to deal with leftover parts. He said to get a small glass jar, put the leftover parts in it, and put it on the shelf. Use the vehicle for a couple of weeks, and if everything works OK, throw the jar away.

    Chain Oiler

Home I installed the Tutoro Automatic oiler on both my NCX and my Blackbird an am pleased with the way they work. Simple and easy to use. No rear wheel mess when you adjust it properly. Now I will wait to see how long the chains last.

    8000 mile valve check

My experience has been that the screw and locknut system is a lot easier to adjust, and a lot more likely to need adjusting. I have had numerous shim-under-bucket bikes and never had a single valve go out of adjustment. The screw type engines I've owned were not that way. Kind of a Catch 22.

    Bright Bluish White Bulbs

I put a Silverstar Ultra H4 in mine the other day, and I am not impressed with the difference it makes. My last two bikes were an FJR1300 and a VFR800 and the Silverstars (2) made a world of difference in the amount and quality of the light. Maybe it's the reflector on the NCX, but the...

    Horn upgrade

I think the reason for using a relay for the horn is that the switchgear (horn button) is not designed to carry the higher current used by the bigger horns. The minimal current required to pick the relay enables a separate higher current circuit to work the horn while protecting the low current...
