I made my own with a $22 piece of Lexan from Home Depot. I recently added a $35 clip-on visor (from ebay). It's not perfect, but it's much better than the OEM windshield and also better than the Puig I used to have.
Welcome from Grants Pass. Sorry about your bumble out of the dealership, but don't worry, you're not alone. I dropped mine making a right turn from a stop sign and I've been riding for many years. It was my first ride with new Givi cases on it. Turns out those plastic Givis are darned tough...
That's a much neater job than mine. Since I got a small it doesn't wrap completely around the bottom side of the saddle like yours does, so most of what's under mine is zip ties stretching from one edge to the other. Still works out great though. And like you I find it to be a big, big...
This was from an X but maybe it's the same as the S. I cut the stand off at the kick lever (or whatever you call that part), then welded a new, slightly larger foot back on. Probably about 25 or 30 mm removed. Made the new foot out of a piece of scrap metal.
Ugh. I really hated those things. Can't remember which streets they were on now - D? E? I worked downtown for many years and always went out of my way to avoid that area.
Maybe because of California's chaotic traffic and abundance of lunatic drivers. As a former Californian, both of those things were on my mind a lot. Riding around most of Oregon is a much more pleasant experience.
Those estimated odometer readings could get a lot more accurate if some states get their way and start billing people for road taxes by electronic monitoring of their mileage instead of via a gas tax. Oregon has been contemplating this for several years.
Oregon launching new program to tax...
I like starting out the riding season with fresh oil so I'd probably do it in the spring. But in reality, I doubt it would make any difference either way, especially sitting in a heated garage (assuming it's a furnace or vented type of heater that doesn't dump water vapor into the garage).
Home Depot sells acrylic (Plexiglas) and Lexan. If I had to do mine over again I might take a closer look at acrylic. Lexan is very strong but it flexes quite a bit in the wind. I mounted a piece of flat iron across it about in the middle to give it more rigidity. It works fine that way...
One thing the Sit & Fly does is let air in between your butt and the seat to keep things cool. It's very noticeable. I imagine the beads do that too. Moving around isn't difficult either and, yes, that helps a lot as well.
Yeah the seat and the windshield make no sense to me at all. They're universally hated. I would have expected more from Honda. But I still love the bike, especially now with these mods. Twenty-five bucks for the seat cover and $22 for the Lexan. And maybe it's just my imagination but...
I finally got the chance to go for a longish ride with the new Lexan DIY windshield and Sit & Fly seat cover. I repeated the same ride that gave me the butt ache and wind shear issues off the Puig. It couldn't have gone much better. There was zero butt ache and the wind issues were greatly...
You could try putting the bike up on the center stand (if you have one), turn the handlebars to full left lock (just so it doesn't move) and spinning the wheel with something stationary right up near the rotor to use as a reference point to see if it is warped. Maybe use something like a straw...
I just did the valve clearance check on mine last week and was looking at those bolts thinking about what would happen if I broke one off. Thankfully all went well. I had some that were a little tight too. This was the 8,000 mile check, and I know they changed the valve clearance service...
