Be the first to ruin your NC700's fuel economy

"featuring an in-dash remote"

Is that the non-waterproof box with the upright facing DB-9 ??!

Is there another alternative bike which may have required less mods and perhaps given you as much fun and made it to your specs?... This is an honest question and not a sarcastic attempt to get on your bad side.:D

Happy, there are people in this world that feel the need to mod everything they have, and I am part of them. The only thing I haven't modded is my microwave oven... Or maybe did I ? Riding my bike is half the fun and modding it is the other half. Then riding it and enjoying a mod I did is extra, so I may achieve 150% fun with something that's not supposed to go beyond 100% in a perfect world. I'm not telling you that I am proud and fully satisfied in everything I've done on all my projects, but I guess that's part of the "hobby".

I haven't run the totals yet, but no. I did an exhaustive study to determine my starting point for the lightweight long-distance tourer and the NC was the best starting point for what I wanted to build. If more power had been on my list, I would have started elsewhere. In fact, I almost did, but fuel economy won out in the analysis.

Admittedly though, I should show more grace to anyone who wants to do anything to a motorcycle that they bought for their own enjoyment. Point taken, but I don't think I was too hard on them, was I ?
Be honest Lee if you could have bought a bike that was equivalent to your post farkaling NC would you have enjoyed it as much as doing it for yourself? I may be wrong but I have a feeling that the answer is No

You know I never thought this discussion would get so twisted. First I figured that anyone who bought a NC was well informed as to its horsepower and were fine with the performance. Why would you buy an under-square, long stroke, low RPM, tractor like motor (compared to sport bikes) if what you wanted was a high RPM screamer. There is a guy here locally that says he can re-flash the stock ECU and get 10+ Hp gain. I was tempted for about 30 sec., but I came from that high Hp world where everyone was paying thousands of dollars to get 2 more Hp and it was stupid. I'm thrilled to no end with my little 'ol NC and what she does. As for any other mods, hey go for broke when it comes to making it your own, hell I'm still waiting for the first member to show up with custom paint, ghost flames and the like. This bike, as Lee said is a wonderful platform for modification, I would just hate to see it digress into a "Gixxer" forum of crazy ideas to squeeze a half a horsepower at the cost of 25% of the gas mileage

I would hate to see this place turn forum members off from posting because others don't like what they want to do. Is wanting a little more power any different than wanting better handling, better wind protection, seating, lighting? Again...this goes back to the "Why didn't you buy X bike" argument.

I don't think you've been too hard, but I do find it curious that someone who has modded the heck out of their bike would dismiss a product that you don't find useful for what you have in mind for YOUR bike.

Unless we plan to change the Forum topic to Mods that only everyone likes... I think a little more open mindedness would go along way to keeping this from becoming one of "those" forums. Those of you familiar with sportbikes.net know that "that" kind of forum can be like.

I feel that it is good for the forum that there are differences of opinion. If everybody just posted how great the bike is and how every alteration to it or product sold for it is in their opinion great it would soon become boring. Let there be open debate without anyone getting upset or accusing others of bullying them just because their post choose to differ in opinion. Discussion and friendly debate keeps the forum active

I agree, and that's the opposite of where this thread went. And, frankly, it starts with the immediately negative topic header.

The Honda CNC Billet Preload Adjusters thread is an good example of healthy debate for a product that (much like this one) no one has even tried. Probably doesn't help that fuel programmers tend to ignite a lot of debate for some reason, especially in motorcycle circles. We had a doozy over in the Star Motorcycle forums that got pretty nasty.

You are probably correct, but more accurately, every consumer product has to have a target audience. Economics suggests that the target be as broad as possible. The targets for a motorcycle include rider size and weight, intended use, sense of style, power, weight, price, economy, safety, etc. The chances of a motorcycle being built "for me" are pretty slim. I am not one to suffer through the shortcomings. I am sure that 6'-2" and 200 lbs. is not the middle of the spec. My arthtritis and long-distance use make ergos of utmost importance to me. I concentrated my decision on the attributes that I could not change. I could not make a Ural reliable or a NC700 fast. If I could have made a KTM 990 SM-T fuel-efficient I would be riding something else right now. This same line of logic is why I built my current LD bike from a BMW R1150R (bare bike) rather than starting with one of their "touring" models.

I have taken quite a few shots for the extent and nature of my changes to the bike. I think it is fine that someone would "never do that" to their bike or that they don't understand why I am not satisfied with this or that, or why I didn't start with a different bike. So, I take one little "dink" at an area of the bike that I am satisfied with and do not understand the modification of, and it is like I farted before the queen.

Could not one just say "Well I think it is a fine product and I am going to buy six of them to give away as Christmas presents" or whatever? Jeez Louise!

I always said way back in my Gold Wing days that the only way to be really different at a Wing Ding would be to have a stock standard bike :)
Seriously which of us doesn't change there bike in at least some small way?

You're waking up memories.. Here is mine the day she left me, when she knew I've replaced her with a slimmer and younger one...

Was somebody talking about fuel economy ? ;)

I've been considering crimson red with a slight metal flake in the clear coat and then some Roll Tide graphics. I haven’t figured out the graphics yet so I’m open to suggestions.

....,,,,,. it is like I farted before the queen.
Here Here!!

I hope we can always have a civil and open forum here. Call me naive but when I first joined this forum it had about a post per day. In three months it has achieved critical mass and now sometimes I don't have time to read all new posts. We are going to have disagreements or differences of opinion but I hope no one leaves over them. I for one have taken shots at Lee and he, thankfully, did not respond in kind. So what if he broke wind before the queen? Let those that have not done the same cast the first stone.

Who cares about fuel economy with a bike like that? The pleasure of riding something like that has got to be worth the cost of the petrol. Shame I can't afford the £25000 ( $40000 )to put one on the road. I drool every time I pass the brand new white one in the dealers

I think some are misconstruing my point. This thread took a negative tone immediately and I was curious as to why. It's my opinion that the thread title set the tone for the thread. You don't have to blow sunshine and rainbows about everything, but at lets not bury something right away because we don't feel the need for it or like it (whatever that may be).

I read through most of the new threads on a daily basis and am already seeing a bit of negativity creeping into them. It's not entirely avoidable, but with a little diligence, it can be kept to a minimum.

We are mere mortals. We have our own opinions. It is ok to be different. It is also ok to be wrong sometimes. What is important is we learn and move forward with positive vibes. I always learned that the biggest man can say sorry. Little mean men cannot. (not saying anyone here, btw). I also won't apologise for having my own opinion about a neon-pink helmet or jacket, for example.

Many of the "moddists" here are good people and every one of them can post what they like to see or not see. There is always 2 sides of the coin. Just because I don't like what you do or don't, does not mean you are a good or a bad person. Your follow-up posts, however, will actually tell us exactly that.

:D
Peace out....peace out....

And this is what I was saying in my post, if you've been to the sport bike sites you know how hateful they can get when it comes to engine mods and horsepower adders. That’s just what I saw starting on this thread. Note that I said go for it with your mods, it’s your ride and I'm still waiting for the first custom paint job. I was even tempted by the ECU re-flash (briefly as it was). I just hate to see the conversations on this forum digressing into less than open minded exchanges for whatever the reason. Put your opinion out there and if someone disagrees with it, don't beat a dead horse, I doubt you'll change their minds. Thousand word tirades, bulling, flaming and just general re-re-re stating the same posts are best left to those sites where there are a lot of hyped up egos don't think your opinion mean anything unless it's the same as theirs (try to expound the virtues of a stock NC700 on a American custom chopper site, or talk 888 Harley Iron on the GSX-R1000 sites). Mods will be headed for my bike as the credit card companies will allow, myself I doubt I'll be jacking around with the powertrain, it works well for what I'm after, which is a fun ride that doesn't cause major pains when I ride more than an hour, doesn't put my license at risk or put me in front of a judge trying to explain my hooligan behavior. So lighten up guys discussion and debates is fine but try to keep it upbeat, one nasty post will usually lead to a bunch, like little pissed off dominos. I hope I cleared up any misunderstanding of my position.

I have never so regretted a post in my life. I am sorry I was negative. From the start I was. Right from the title. If I tear my clothes, heap ashes on myself and flog my back with chains, can we get over it? Someone buy this wonderful device and let everyone know that I am wrong and how much extra power your bike makes and how great it runs with less than the stoichiometric quantity of fuel.

If someone comes out with a chrome turd for the NC700 I am going to beam with envy and wish I had one.

I'm with Lee on this one. When someone proves this does what it says.

1. Improves engine horsepower by 15%
2. Improves low-end and mid-range torque
3. Peps up acceleration
4. Fuel economy improvement by up to 6%
5. Smooth out throttle response (Not needed on mine.)

I'll open my mind up a bit. Until then I'm betting snake oil, and most likely fuel mileage will take a hit more than 6%.
