So I’ve owned a pair of Icon varial boots for about 2500 miles and 5 months and feel confident to give a thorough review. Overall 3.5/5 given what they are. They have a flat sole with no heel step (plus) but very little rise.
The laces are junk, but once replaced with Kevlar laces the tie system is much better.
Very non descript under the pants and highly walkable.
They are ce 1 certified and the sole reflects that (nice transverse stiffness). However the rest of the boot is somewhat less substantial. There is a moderate heel and toe counter and supposedly d3o ankle armor but I can’t feel it at all. I do enjoy them for what they are and the lack of a shifter pad hasn’t hurt any.
I like them for what they are. Excellent shifter and brake feel, flexible and all day walkable. Less than top notch protection is the trade. They rise about 7”
