I installed a 2012 Tuono V4 rear shock on my 2020 NC750X. I replaced the OEM spring with an 800 lb Hyperpro 186a0800 spring. It's a 6" spring that went on without much fuss. I also installed an NTA3648 needle thrust bearing with fitted washers to make preload adjustments easier. I have 10mm of preload on it without checking the sag, and it seems to be in the ballpark. After returning from about a 1,600 mile round trip to Florida, I can say that it is definitely an improvement. The rear certainly rides much smoother.

The total cost was under $200.

Shock - $85
Hyperco Spring - $80
Bearing - $11

Good idea on the needle thrust bearing. Never would have thought about that. Appreciate it.

For info, don't expect your Sachs shocks to fit the >2021 bikes. I have just acquired a 2022 NC750X and I had hoped the Sachs Tuono shock I had fitted to my 2018 NC750S would also fit as the shock lengths are consistent. However, the >2021 bikes have a big plastic moulding part of the undertray that pokes down where the compression damping reservoir needs to go. Unless you are prepared to do some heavy duty surgery to the undertray the Sachs wont fit.
