2024 NC750X
I just bought a 2024 NC750X. I am a fair weather rider. This is my 5th bike in 45 years. Last was a 14 CB500F. First bike with a screen. I feel like the stock screen is helping with stability, but also think wind is being pushed to my helmet. Wind noise is noticeably worse. I have never worn ear plugs. I am 5 10 180. If the answer is that I just have to get ear plugs, then probably don’t need a new screen. Hoping there is a screen that will push the wind over my helmet. Max I will go is 80, but a lot of 65-70. As is, noise is much higher even at 50 than my naked cb500F. So, questions for anybody that has had similar issues.
(1) is the Honda taller screen enough to really help. Heard it was 2-3 inches taller.
(2) same questions for Puig or Madstad. Multiple models. Any recommendations for my situation. If I hunch over, sound is much better, just not sure how much taller I need for it to be to fix the problem.

I would really like to ride without ear plugs. Plan to also fix the seat, but love the bike except for the wind noise.
Thanks

A) Take the screen off and see if the noise level is acceptable. I found no screen to be better than the stock screen on (on a 2012).

B) Try a universal windshield lip. Cheap option to test things out and it might be all you need.
I have the one on the left. It's been on the bike for a couple years and I ride a lot. Almost every day.

As someone with hearing loss, the question should not be about pushing the wind up over your helmet. Protect what you have at all costs. Unless you can document that the noise levels due to wind when riding are below what I would call the threshold of damage to hearing, better play it safe. Wear the ear plugs.

Look into the Madstad windshield.

What he said ^^^. Protect your hearing. I wear earplugs motorcycling, lawn mowing, running a loud vacuum cleaner, chainsaw, wood chipper, even hammering nails. I had a bicycle tire explode right next to me (for the second time in my life) last year and I lost more of my already bad hearing; can’t get it back once it’s gone. Now I wear ear muffs when inflating bicycle tires. I wish back in my younger years I had been more careful.

I would agree: regardless of your direction here, do strongly consider adopting earplugs consistently.

I have never worn ear plugs.

It’s never too late to start!

I found my best option (on a 2012) was to use the Honda Touring screen, which at least for the early bikes was very flexible and readily bendable. I have a clamp I clamp to the top of the screen, and pull the top back toward me and down, such that the top of the screen is roughly ‘flat’ or parallel to the ground. Then I hook a piece of paracord I have tied to the handlebars onto that clamp to hold the screen in that position while I ride.

This maintains some wind blocking for my body, but gives my helmet clean air. That really reduced the noise for me.

I also have a Madstad. It blocks far more air for cold weather, but there’s still distinctly more noise and ‘slap’ from the air than my paracord & bent screen approach, above. In fact no windscreen (I’ve tried several) pushes the air far enough above and around my helmet to make it quiet. My home method is the best on an early bike.

If Honda’s bigger screen is still flexible and bendable like it used to be, that’s the route I’d go.

Listen to the wind noise as you accelerate. I find it gets to be too loud at around 50 mph. This can vary, depending on what helmet I wear.
This is WITH the Puig tall screen and the cheap extender. I have the Neotec 2 Shoei helmet, which is a bit louder than the Neotec 1. So any time I'm going to be on the freeway for more than a few minutes I just put in the cheap disposable earplugs.

The stock OEM windshield is too short. The tall OEM version is too expensive compared to Puig or GIVI. I have the tall GIVI on my bike. At 6'-2" the GIVI is a bit short. I am going to try the add-on deflector soon.

I have started wearing earplugs as my yearly hearing test has shown some loss of hearing. The foam industrial plugs work okay but the right one won't stay in place. I'm picking up a pair of the motorcycle specific earplugs this weekend. Several riders in my club recommend them over the foamies.

I ride with a Bell SRT helmet which my wife says is noisier than her Schuberth C5.

I bot the '24 NC750 dct about 250 miles ago and had the same problem with noise and wind.... I bot the GIVI tour screen and love it. It's about the same height relative to my eyes and the stock screen on my '18 Goldwing tour, about 5 inches below eye level. wind now goes over my helmet with very little noise.

I have the same bike. I'm 6 feet tall and my givi touring screen is excellent (kappa do the same model). But you may want to swap out the well nuts for nylock nuts as my screen ended up in my lap the other day. I think the extra stress of the wind was too much for the well nuts.

Shame on Givi for not supplying adequate hardware with their aftermarket windscreen.

I too replaced the stock screen with the Givi touring screen. Having recently purchased the 24 nc750x and come from an '18 GL1800 Tour, i wanted and got the same wind and noise protection.....and love the NC even more.

Did I read somewhere that Madstad changed their mounting hardware for their windshield? I don't remember the particulars, but I'd guess mfrs are constantly changing their hardware to make it more competitive (read cheaper), or stronger. I tend to agree with you, too many companies rush their products to market w/o adequate testing. They don't care much about black eyes.

I don’t know what Madstad ships now, but from early on, their windscreen for the 2012 model came with nutplates that replaced the stick wellnuts. Other manufacturers like CalSci did not, and their screens were known to come loose under wind pressure. Even the OEM Honda accessory touring screens on early models did not rely on the rubber wellnuts.

How fast were you going? Did you read the sticker on the windshield not to exceed 85 mph? The Givi has been on my bike for 4 years with no issues, but I have not exceeded 80 mph.

Interesting. Today at breakfast with our BMW motorcycle club we were discussing 'how fast have you gone?' I think everybody said they had, at one time or another exceeded, the 3 digit mark. Not sure I'd buy a windshield with said sticker.

I don't think any mfr can make a windshield (in a stock size) that fits (or satisfies) everybody. People come in all shapes and sizes. I remember Calsci offered their shields in various heights, and you can get a custom one from Madstad.

If you say ever, I'd admit to in my lifetime exceeding the triple digit mark, but maybe only once in the last 20 years. I rarely exceed 72 these days (our freeway speed limit is 65). At 75 years old I just don't see the need anymore. As the saying goes ... been there done that, no longer feel the need.

Around 70mph. I don't recall seeing any stickers on it when I bought it. The stress may have been increased by the fact that sandwiched between the screen and the bike is a fone/sat nav bar, and I hit a massive pot hole at the time. I tried putting these facts in the initial reply but I was limited to 420 characters. Is that usual in these threads? I'm sure I've seen longer replies.

I find it hard to believe that the nav bar (I have one on my '21750x - Madstad shield) adds enough wind resistance behind the windshield to pop the well nuts loose. Having used some well nuts, I have to say I'm surprised they are able to hold a windshield in place. Perhaps the ones I used (on another bike) were the wrong size, but they seemed insubstantial.
