[..Just wish Honda made a light weight mid-size adventure bike with shaft drive, and a 31.3 seat height...]
The market for such a bike just doesn't exist in the US and perhaps the same could be said of most other developed countries. I could be mistaken but I'd guess that sales of BMW 1200GS models far outstrip sales of their 650GS and 800GS.
I have both a 2010 NT700V/ABS and also a 2013 NC700XD. The NT has 53k miles and was bought new in Dec 2009, while the NC was a used bike (800 mi) I bought from a friend in Dec 2014. Both are completely different beasts. For long distance travel, I still prefer the NT and try as I might, there is really no easy way of getting comparable wind/rain protection from the NC. Conversely, the NC is a delight at low speed because it's much lighter than the NT plus it's weight is all down low so it feels more like 400 lbs than 500 lbs! The layout of the NT makes it feel much heavier than its 570 pounds plus it's decidedly top heavy, making parking lot maneuvers much more tricky. And I've lowered both bikes to suit my small stature.
