Thanks sarge. That's what I came up with too. Has anyone tried installing a dirt tire that was measured in inches and were there any fitment issues besides the front fender interference?

Osomxl,

If you find any tire that is 40% street and 60% dirt please post it here or PM me and I will be sure it gets added to the list.

Where the NC700 is really hurting is for these dirt front tires that fit. Remember the narrower the front tire the better it will handle in the dirt, is a good rule of thumb, but there is always an exception.

For the front all I have found is Continental Twinduro TKC80 Dual Sport that will fit without modification in a tubeless tire. Great tire, but as you stated the price is not so good at about $140.00. I like running tubeless tires because as fast as these tires wear out, I put in Ride On that keeps the tire balanced at all times for better milage, and avoids flats for the most part in the outback.

You can not use Ride On in tube type tires.

Have any of you seen this metzler?

Metzeler MCE Karoo Dual Sport Rear Tire - Chaparral Motorsports

It's only available in a 150/70-17. Can it theoretically be stretched across the width of the rim? I realize the loss of the profile, but the extra 10% aspect ratio height would make up for the loss when spread across the width of the rim. Being a true dual sport tire, the sidewall looks generous and stiff enough to withstand a 10mm stretch. What do the rest of you think?

It happens to be a tubeless tire as well.

Um... OCR, I truly don't mean to be a killjoy here, but I'm not seeing a huge difference between this thread and the one in Tires forum with all the same info.

This is a poll to see what type tires NC7 owners actually are using, the other list the tires that fit the NC7 composed by the folks on this forum. The difference is to see what type of tires folks are actually using on their NC7.

Okaaaaaaay... I won't argue with that ;)

Personally I would view TKC 80's as a higher percentage off/on than the Heidenau's though. My buddy has them on his Super Tenere, and they are nowhere near as knobbly.

Guess I would have to say 100% road since mine has PR3s on it. Although my CRF has PR2s on it and it still does a fair amount of trails so maybe the 100% road tires are not 100% road

Like you I really like the TKC 80 tires. However, I can only list what percentage the manufacture list their tire at. I have a set of TKC 80 for Nortwestrider's July WABDR ride. Great dirt tire.

The forum successfully merged the similar threads (after I asked it to). Conversation picks up where it left off, and the poll stayed on top. It's like it never happened!

When should a tire be replaced?

tirepenny.jpg

Tire manufactures recommend changing a tire when it is worn to 1/32 of an inch of tread remaining. If you insert a penny into a groove in the center of your tire, 1/32 is right at the top of Lincoln's head.

Added Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT

Rear Tire - 170/60 ZR17 Retail $343.95

I know that the intent is to list all the tires that will fit and these should fit the bill, however, I just want to point out to those considering the GT version that the GT PR4's specifically say that they're for heavier touring bikes. This means stiffer sidewalls and harder surface compounds (less grip for more mileage).

There's nothing out there saying that this won't work for the NC700 series, but they do seem to indicate that it's not ideal.

This could just be unprovoked fretting, the GT's could be perfect. I feel it's better to have that point out there so others can decide for themselves and hopefully not have anyone report a confirmation with a bad ride report.

If the GT line is actually better... man, would I love to read that as well... just not right now... I just forked out the cash to reskin my rims with some standard PR4's.

Safe riding!

Does anyone have any ideas as to how many miles I should expect out of a rear Shinko 705 tire? I know the TKC80 up front is reported to have lasted more than 10k on OldWestRider's bike, but no reports on the 705's longevity powering an NC.
