Bike
NC750X
Hello all,

Fake Friday for me.

I just re-entered the motorcycle world this year. Took 5 years away after some broken bones healed. Not new to motorcycles but certainly new to the DCT. Last three bikes were a 2005 Honda XR650L, 2016 KTM 690 Enduro R and then for some reason I found myself with a 2025 Honda ADV160. I think the ADV was trying to fill a gap without having to admit I missed having a motorcycle. After realizing the ADV was just not right for me, I bought a new 2024 Honda NC750X. I'm in the US so it's a DCT. It has only been 1 week of ownership. At the time I was trying to decide between a 2024 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sport ES DCT, 2024 BMW F900GS or the 2024 Honda NC750X. There is such a big difference between the first two and the NC. I was willing to spend the extra money to get the AT or the GS. I went to the dealers and looked at all three units and sat on them hoping one would speak to me. The AT and the GS feel uncomfortably top heavy to me. I wanted to give myself permission to buy the AT. On the drive over, I was convinced I would buy the AT. I sat on the NC and it just feels so much better for my needs. I don't need 7 gallons of fuel and I really didn't need a liter bike. My main purpose is running errands and riding 15 miles (one-way) to work. I'm not a peg grinder. Had a couple CBR600's but was never a person who could use a sport bike to its potential. I thought a 80% dirt, 20% road would be a good bike. Now I think 80% road, 20% dirt is better.

Here are some obvious observations that I made that pulled me to the NC:
- The NC has a good seat height to allow someone like me (5'10") to flat-foot. That is a good feeling to be able to flat-foot.
- The NC frunk allows me to store my work materials, coat, gloves without the need for a tail bag or panniers. I don't think panniers are very flattering for a motorcycle but they are quite functional.
- The NC's low HP and "high" torque really gives it an electric feel for power; I like that.
- The NC's fuel economy is really good so far. Seems like I'm getting 65 MPG.
- The NC's DCT is awesome. I'm hooked. I have no reason to return to a clutch.
- When I swing my leg over I'm not hitting a tail bag. Again, another thumbs up for the frunk.
- Low center of gravity makes the bike feel lighter than it is.

Here are some observations that I wish were better for the NC:
- There should be an aluminum swing arm and not steel tube.
- There should be inverted forks.
- There should be twin disk brakes in front.
- The LCD dash should be a TFT color dash like the AT.
- There should be self-cancel turn signals.
- There should be an option for a heated seat.
- There should be tubeless spoke wheels.

I have a fear Honda will discontinue the NC but I hope not. I really like it and I have no regrets buying the NC over the AT or GS. Both the AT and GS are beautiful bikes, but I want function over form at this stage in my life and the NC fills the function. Maybe the NC is not as beautiful as a AT or GS but maybe it is. I'd be happy and 100% wiling to buy another new NC in the future if Honda adds my wish list above. So the plan is to add heated grips, fog lights, center stand, USB and a GPS. That should be a good start. It would be great to declare this my "forever" bike. Time will tell. I don't see myself going toward a large heavy adventure bike as I start to get older. I'm not retired, but I'm not too far away.

What are your thoughts on these observation lists?

Regards,
Brian

Over here, Honda are announcing new updated models on a Tuesday in the run up to EICMA at the beginning of November. We had the X-ADV two weeks ago and this week a significant refresh of the NT1100 was revealed. Both bikes are available with DCT and have new versions of software. I am hopeful the NC will get a refresh too.

Yes, that would be great and thanks for your insight! It seems Honda is willing to off 6 different minimotos. Every Honda dealer in my area is fully stocked (over stocked?) with Groms and Navis. I think the minimoto obsession is slowing down and there will be riders looking for other options. Honda does not offer the ADV scooter in the US with the 350 or 750. Perhaps the Transalp is what Honda will be pushing in the future over the NC? But I feel like the Transalp is a bit too off-road for my need.

Since the 2021 refresh, the NC has been a full on road bike with almost zero off road capability. The Transalp is a bit more off road focused, so despite them looking a bit similar they are catering for very different riders. IMO, the NC competes more with the CB750 Hornet. Don't know if you lot get that bike. But again, even then they are very different bikes.
In Europe, the UK and Ireland, the NC still sells OK. It's regarded more as a commuter bike, a role it does fill very well. I think it will continue over here for the time being. It's never going to get much in the way of bling though. If you want an alloy swing arm, the one off the Integra fits. That bike sold well in Italy so you can find the swingarm for sale there. I just bought one for my 2022 NC. Makes the bike look far less bargain basement.

Did a quick eBay search for Honda Integra parts and there are some, but no swing arms. I'm sure to void the warranty if I get too deep into changing the bike's structure. However, the tip is appreciated and I might set up a search to see if I can locate a Integra swing arm in the future. I think I would have been happy to pay another $2000 +/- for Honda to use a bit nicer materials. But I remain thrilled with the NC.

It's a shame how the regulations are so different country-to-country. I know this first-hand because I work in a highly regulated global industry. This puts manufacturer's in a worse position because they are forced to make county specific models.

Howdy and welcome to the forum

Your wish list would raise the price of an already borderline priced economy bike significantly

.With regards to your wish list:

- There should be an aluminum swing arm and not steel tube....WHY? The swingarm works
- There should be inverted forks. ...again WHY? The forks work fine but maybe a little stiff
- There should be twin disk brakes in front...maybe.... the front brake is adequate... but could be a little stronger
- The LCD dash should be a TFT color dash like the AT...the dash is fine now if not a little complicated..I could actually be happy with round analog gauges
- There should be self-cancel turn signals...agreed
- There should be an option for a heated seat...as an option sure
- There should be tubeless spoke wheels....disagree ...mags are much better than spokes which loosen, get dirty and are a pain to clean

I have a 21 NC 750 DCT that I have put over 50,000 miles on. My update wish list would include:

a better windshield
a better seat
self-cancelling turn signals (which they supposedly get in Europe)
cruise control as an option
pre-wired for a gps or phone
the emergency braking lights (which they supposedly get in Europe)

Enjoy your bike

I just bought a 21 NC and your observations are very similar to mine. Just finished up adding a Thunderbox for electronics and a Madstad for windshield. Laam seats offers a heated option.

Nice - I almost bought a used 21 but I thought the dealer wanted too much compared to new. I think the Thunderbox may be a winter project for me. I can put the bike in the basement and work in the warmth. The heated seat would certainly be nice but I'l start with heated grips and some wind blocking pants :)

I bought mine 3rd party, 21 with 5k miles on it for $6,500, I think I did pretty good. Although I've now spent a touch over $1k on farkles to make it mine... Heated grips and possibly Cruise Control (I think I am going to have my son 3D print one of the basic throttle holders first). I need a pair of wind blocking pants as well.

Hey Ferret - solid points. Thanks for your input.

- For the aluminum swing arm, I think the steel tube looks cheap. Cast aluminum parts are not expensive. I have made tools and produced cast aluminum parts for my company. There is machining and perhaps the swing arms are forged and not cast. I've also had forging dies made and forged aluminum parts. Yes, you likely need a 5 axis CNC to finish which adds to the cost. But you are 100% correct that the swing arm works and is proven. I think the more advanced materials look better and offer some advantages (stiffer, less weight, corrosion resistance, etc).

- The inverted forks offer a bit more stiffness and less weight. I think they also look a bit better. But again, I agree with you that they are acceptable as-is.

- Twin disks would be something that they should install on bikes when the weight is at a certain point. At nearly 500 pounds, I thin twins are warranted. I have not yet tried some hard test braking but the lady yesterday in her Subaru cause me to grab some brakes and pucker a little ;)

- I'd like to have connectible system to my phone. A more advanced dash would be nice. Specifically, I'd like to be able to use Apple Car Play but I think it would allow for analytics to be sent from the NC to an app. I'm an engineer and I would like to get data for fun and to see how things are behaving. Temperature, time spent at certain RPM, fuel eco, etc.

- The aluminum wheels are nice in that there is much less maintenance. I like spoked wheels a little better for the durability and repairability.

I like your list as well. I'm not totally needing cruise control because I'm more short trips but I can see a need for long trips. Emergency brake lights is a good one! Having a multi-axis accelerometer in the electronics would be nice too so it can detect a fall-over and erratic movement.

Regards,
Brian

We dont get self cancelling indicators

Veridian cruise control works great $300

No NC has self cancelling indicators as as far I know. My UK spec 2022 definitely doesn't.
Emergency hazards, yes, we get.

Interesting. Do you have a 21 or later? It was advertised as having them, along with the emergency flashing rear lights. Did you get those?

The reason some people expected self canceling signals on the 2021 NC750X is because Honda said so. https://hondanews.com/en-US/powersp...43f088175-2021-honda-nc750x-features-benefits

My 2024 Uk spec does not have self cancelling turn signals but does have the emergency flashing rear lights

Flashing emergency stop lights are not allowed by Federal Motor Vehicle Code, unless the manufacturer has a special (written) exception from DOT for study or data collection. FMVSS 108 specifies that brake (stop) lamps must be "steady burning."
