Hello All, I've been a lurker/reader here in this place here for awhile but hadn't gotten a NC700x yet. They're kinda rare around here. I know of two, now three in the area. Well today I bought one and brought it home. It's a 2012 Honda NC700X, it has 12k+ miles on it. Seems to be in good shape, it's got Honda saddlebags. The dealer put on a new set of tires, a new battery, and an oil change. It's been lowered somewhat and a shorter kickstand installed. However, the previous owner included the original parts unlike so many others who toss the original parts in the trash can, so I'll probably re-install the factory suspension links and the kickstand. It had some kind of carbon fiber look windscreen off another bike, but since the p.o. had included the original parts, I reinstalled the factory windscreen after I got home this afternoon. I guess I need to find an owner's manual since I can't seem to find it in the Frunk where I thought it would be at, so if any of you have an extra for sale, that'd be great. Otherwise I'll hit Honda's website and buy one from them.

Congratulations on your nice NC700X find. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my 2012. As for the owners manual, you may need to pay if you want a paper copy, but here is a 2013 manual downloadable from Honda https://cdn.powersports.honda.com/documentum/MWOM/ml.remawmom.2013_31mjja00_nc700x_xa_xd.pdf
The 2012 and 13 NCs are alike so this manual should be appropriate if you can’t find a 2012 manual.

I guess this is where new owners say hello...I'm in Fairbanks Alaska and picked up a 2024 NC750XDR today. Been riding since 1960 but finally needed a DCT as left hand is compromised. Looking forward to the new ride and learning about what makes it work. Gary
Congratulations Gary

Welcome, Gary. Glad to have you join the forum.

Howdy Arctic and welcome to the forum.

Just got back from Alaska, visiting the Kenai peninsula...Anchorage, Whiitier, Seward, Homer, Denali. Beautiful scenery

We have 5 months of "Spring-Summer-Fall" at Latitude 68.4N, then the rest is Winter. Days of +80 and smoke from wildfires some years, others it's cool and damp 50+. Colder and wetter on the coast, better inland like Fairbanks. Lots of daylight in June when it never gets dark at night. I haven't seen the stars at night mid-Summer since 1965. But, our climate keeps most of the undesirables and unresolved away so far. Good for riding bikes and enjoying the scenery if outfitted properly.

Thanks for the greeting. I'm looking forward to my Honda and DCT. Gary

Hey all. Dave here.
Just joined up as I recently purchased a 2014 NC750X. Most of the reason for joining is that I'm thinking of possibly tuning it for a little more power. I think this bike is actually slower than my 2013 CB500F. I'm sure there are a bunch of untapped horses in there somewhere.
My bike has already been fully upgraded with tons of goodies from the previous owners but I'm sure I'll find something to add to the list. I'll need some new tires at the end of the season so I'll be looking for suggestions. I've already put about 3000 km since I got it only about a month ago so I must love it!
My previous bikes were
1st. 2013 Honda CB500F
2nd. 2004 GL1800
3rd. 2005 Yamaha V-Star 1100 custom (project bike). My Nemesis 🥵🤬
4th. NC750. (Current bike)
Anyway I'll probably be here a while. I think this one's a keeper.

Welcome to the club and good luck on your quest for untapped power in the NC.

Welcome to the forum, Dave.

Please keep the group informed of your progress in tuning the NC for more power. Not that it is of any interest to me, but the quest comes up from time to time, and in my 12 years being on this forum I can’t recall anyone being successful. It’s easy to make more noise, but apparently not easy to make more power. As a result, I guess people that really want more power just buy a different motorcycle. But, again, let us know what you find.

Understood. I'm just looking to get a bit more power when needed/wanted. I understand the way the engine is designed (undersquare) but still believe there's a bit left being a 750cc possibly with tuning. I just find under hard acceleration, I'm always hitting the rev limiter and the engine sounds like it's not even actually at its limits. I feel like Honda detuned the bike to make it more on the reliable side of things and for better fuel economy. I'm not that concerned about fuel economy getting a bit worse. It is still saving me a ton of money compared to my truck when commuting.

It's such a great design with the frunk and the upright riding position. I normally don't need to use my top and side cases when commuting to work because everything I need fits without them.

I'll definitely keep people posted if I find any information that helps.

On a 700, per dynamometer curves, the horsepower peak comes before the rev limiter. So, there is no need to rev to the limit. On the 2014 750, which was not available in the US, I don’t know if the rev limit was raised then, or if the rev limit change occurred later, and whether the power peak is higher. Check power curve for your model if you can find it published somewhere.

Welcome Dave

I'm an OUTGOING member here. We own two. My wife has a 2016 NC700x. I rode(!) a 2018 NC750x. Degenerative problem + advanced arthritis + injury to my left wrist ended my riding about 2 years ago. No riding this year. Rode only a couple times last year. Just can't do it safely anymore.

The NC is a great bike. Awesome commute. Good base for modification into a light touring bike. Not a true adventure bike but it's also not out of its element on gravel (with the correct tires) so it suits 90% of the riders, even if they don't realize it.

Enjoy. I'm envious of those who are still able.

Hello All, I'm back after being gone awhile and back to work today too. About a week after buying my bike, a lady did a left turn into me as I was riding into work (July 25th). Of course the bike was totaled and I was almost totaled as well. I spent a month in the hospital being repaired, and then over a month at home resting and recovering. Luckily I've always worn my gear, helmet, one piece armored suit, gloves, and boots. The bike was nice while I had it and I enjoyed riding it. I still have the original suspension linkages and kickstand (kickstand now sold) as my bike was lowered when I bought it, if someone needs them to restore their bike back to its original height.

That’s terrible news :-( I’m so sorry to hear but so glad you are alive. A left turning car is every biker’s nightmare. The NC is replaceable (although rare it sounds like in your neck of the woods), but your life is not. Hope that you are continuing to be on the mend.

Hope the recovery is going well. Same happened to me in February. Bike written off and I went flying over the bonnet and landed on head and hands. Don't remember a thing but cctv caught it all.
Right hand is still not right and can't move neck so no bikes for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, that's kinda where I'm at. My right leg is still healing, it works but not without pain and not fully functional, and unfortunately this was most likely my last bike. Ah well, it is what it is, I guess. Luckily the traffic and new gas station cameras caught it all along with nurses and emergency personnel being at the gas station so they were quick to respond.
