Hi y'all
I'm new here and have a question.
Honda says the new NC750 has 6% taller gears.
Does anyone know if this was done with the trans or the chain sprockets?
Cheers Mike

2014 nc750x Gear Ratios 1st: 2.812 / 2.666 (DCT) 2nd: 1.894 / 1.904 (DCT) 3rd: 1.454 / 1.454 (DCT) 4th: 1.200 / 1.200 (DCT) 5th: 1.033 / 1.033 (DCT) 6th: 0.837 / 0.864 (DCT)

Primary Reduction 1.731 / 1.921 (DCT)

2012 nc700x Gear Ratio 1 2.812 (DCT 2.666) 2 1.894 (DCT 1.904) 3 1.454 (DCT 1.454) 4 1.200 (DCT 1.200) 5 1.033 (DCT 1.033) 6 0.837 (DCT 0.837)

Final Reduction 2.687 (DCT 2.437)

I think that means they changed the gearing using sprockets but that doesn't mean that setup will work better on the 700.

Is the primary reduction and the secondary reduction the same for both 700 and 750? I can't tell from your post.

I don't know the two sites worded them differently, one was European of course because we aren't getting the bike over on this side. I assume since it was in the same section right under the ratios that the primary and final mean the same thing?

Primary reduction is between the crankshaft and the clutch. Final reduction is the chain and sprockets. In order to answer the OP's question, specifying which is which makes all the difference.

2012 primary reduction is. 1.731. DCT 1.921

So guess the final reduction is the change.............

I wouldn't put too much faith in the gear ratio specs on Honda's Web pages. I frequently see errors in this type of data. Sometimes they just do a copy/paste from one model to another when in fact the specs might be different.

True and the magazines are saying:

The overall gearing is now 6% taller, giving increased top speed and more relaxed highway cruising; another effect of the taller gearing is to broaden the usable rpm range relative to road speed For those choosing the DCT option - 34% in the first nine months of 2013 - the gearing is 6% taller across 1st to 5th gears, and 3% taller in 6th.

Somebody is wrong.................
