Just going by that one photo which was likely created by Motor Cycle News and NOT Honda, the engine shown has more upright cylinders than the NC700/750 series engines and the clutch cover is completely different.

Yes, the photo caption says “Middleweight Honda Africa Twin render”. As you said, with the upright cylinders, the rendering is not very accurate.

What remains to be seen is whether this middle weight adventure bike will actually be capable of adventure, or just another Honda styling exercise.

The Tokyo Motor Show didn't happen this year so manufacturers submitted pics of their "new models." There were no NCs at all in the collection of Honda pics.
