Hello Everyone, I am a happy owner of my 2023 NC750x DCT. Today I decided to clean the front sprocket area, and I did so successfully. After removing all the dirt around, I unfortunately found a bad surprise - some cables are locally damaged from mechanical contact with the chain, perhaps due to an incorrect position. 2 wires are completely cut off.
However, even in this condition the bike behaves flawlessly, including the DCT shifting. I wouldn't recognize any problem at all without removing the plastic cover panel.

I would be happy, if someone experienced could comment on two questions:
  1. What's the function of the interrupted cables?
  2. Is a replacementspare cable available?

Assuming this will not be an easy fix, as a lot of disassembly work might be required. Am I right?

Thank you for any comments.
Tomas

The frayed cables can be patched with some electrical tape if you're looking for a quick fix.

For the severed wires, assuming you can reach both ends, you should be able to use heat shrink butt connectors to reattach.

I would agree. If the wires have a little length to work with, I would splice them only in that area with another couple inches of wire. Definitely would be the easiest approach.

'Marine' heat shrink is available which has adhesive inside that melts when it is shrunk and will help to seal the wires. It's also a little heavier duty than regular heat shrink.
There is also the same PVC tube that covers the wire bundle many places online (Amazon, ebay, etc.).

I do not know what those wires are off hand.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try.. Initially I wanted to report a warranty issue and take it back to the dealer, as the bike is only 13 months old now.. What you are proposing sounds reasonable.

Not sure what Honda dealers are like in your country. Over here, many of them provide substandard service and create more problems than they fix. And they charge outrageously for poor quality work. I hope your dealer is atypical and does excellent work for you.
