Goodbye NC700

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. ATGATT saved my butt years ago when I dumped a bike because of target fixation. If I had not been wearing All The Gear At That Time, I would not be riding now.

Hey Jumbo - if you don't mind my asking, what gear were you wearing? "Full gear" could mean different things to different riders (IE Kevlar jeans compared to pants with full armor...). Im asking because I don't really have proper riding pants so I am going over all of the options. Just wondering if some of the armor I'm seeing is even worth it compared to something like kevlar.

Good to hear your getting back up on that horse too...

I had on Kevlar jeans with under armor, a First Gear 3/4 length padded jacket, HJC C-17 helmet, padded leather gauntlet gloves, and combat boots. The boots and gloves were the only things I kept, as a matter of fact, I had them on yesterday when I took my first ride since the crash. Rode up around Randolph VT and back. It felt good to be back on a bike!

Nice. I am going to get the kevlar jeans. I'm thinking maybe the armor isn't going to give me enough for the money spent.

I've heard Randolph is a nice area. I live up north of Burlington. Thinking of heading down to Barre this weekend to take a look at the Rock of Ages quarry.

When getting Kevlar jeans, don't assume they have Kevlar throughout. Make sure what areas are protected and that you are okay with that degree of coverage.

Hey Jumbo,
I know it's been awhile since your get off but I wanted to welcome you to the asphalt club! Who needs a patch when you got scars? Falling off motorcycles can be quite traumatic, glad to see you posting. I'm a former motorcycle specialist with Progressive. It is a fact, gear saves your skin. Don't know who said it but the saying "I'd rather sweat than bleed" is pretty accurate.

I also go by the motto" I would rather sweat than bleed", another one is "dress for the fall, not for the ride." The few times I have been out without full kit, I get a bit more nervous than when I'm fully kitted. One of my fellow ThinkBike marshals was hit by a tow truck and dragged for 50 metres, with the truck ending up on him. If he hadn't been wearing ATGATT, I don't believe he would be with us today.

Well, I'm back in the NC fold, I put a down payment on a black one today. I hope this one lasts more than four months!

welcome back. glad to hear you liked us enough to try again. :p
remember, scars are just tattoos with better stories.

I'm new here since you had your wreck and came back, but want to welcome you back!
I totaled my 2012 last month but didn't get hurt at all compared to you (nothing broken). Mine was fixable, so I had it fixed.
I'm glad you got another NC and are back here!
I learned a new term reading this thread. Now I know what a "get off" is!

Bike was delivered yesterday, I put some slingshot adjustable footpegs on it like I had on the original wrecked NC, and I hope to do the seat mod tonight or tomorrow. I should have measured last night so I could have picked up a bracket on the way home. I hope to take it out for it's maiden voyage on Sunday. New bike, new helmet, and new jacket. I'm hoping to ride to the crash scene and try to figure it out.

I was able to take the new one out this past Sunday, did a nice 350 mile loop around Vt and NH. I even stopped at my crash site so the new bike could see where I killed it's older brother (and almost myself as well):)
