Extended Warranty or No Extended Warranty, that is the question.

Bear in mind the extended warranty is going to be priced in such a way that the total cost of warranty repairs (plus a little bit of profit, go capitalism!) is going to be covered by everyone who pays into it. It's basically an insurance policy against defects. For everyone who has a $2500 repair covered by warranty, there are at least 2 others who paid for a warranty they never used (it's not exactly as simple as that, but you get the idea). If the peace of mind an extended warranty brings you is worth the $900, go for it. As a single data point, I can tell you that my 2012 NC700SA has needed nothing beyond expected regular maintenance items (tires, chain [recall], and just this year I replaced the 8 year old battery).

As a rule I never get these, and haven't been disappointed. My son however, seems to fall for them - but has made out like a bandit. I can't explain the difference,. My rationale is they do the math and like the big casinos, odds are with the house. Of course one can win in a casino, but how much did you payout to win a few bucks?
