CB500 FORK SWAP

How much have you learned from research so far? I don’t recall anyone attempting this swap. I thought about it a bit and it looks quite involved and expensive. From a ‘12 NC, I’m guessing switching to ‘22 or ‘23 CB500F dual disks would seem to require, at a minimum:

New forks
New set of triple clamps
New wheel with brake disks
New fender
New master cylinder
Additional brake hose
One, or possibly two, new brake calipers.
Possibly caliper support hardware.

At Honda new part prices, I’d wild guess the project could run $3000 (US), which might be as much or more than a 2012 NC700X is worth. Best find a crashed ‘22+ 500 with a totally good front end, which might be difficult. And that is all assuming the 500’s inverted fork triple clamps can be fitted to the NC frame steering head, and that steering geometry is not negatively affected. With the new 500 forks, you would also lose about an inch of front suspension travel vs the ‘12 NCX. If the new forks are shorter than the NC’s, your steering feel will be altered, unless you lower the rear to match. For all that, braking performance gain might be 1-2 feet at 30-0 mph, maybe 10 feet at 60-0 mph, assuming your front tire traction is adequate, and that the rider is adept at hard braking.

I think it would be difficult to source used parts for such a new vehicle. And switching to USD forks you would need all the parts 670cc noted. You might want to look into what other Hondas had 41mm forks with dual rotor wheels. I just did a quick search on partzilla on the dust seal (https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/91254-MEE-D01) and looks like there's some sport bikes listed in the Fitment - 2013 CB1100 looks like it has a dual rotor front wheel. There's plenty of others. So it's slightly possible that all you would need is a complete front wheel, left caliper, and the lower fork tubes. The length of the forks on a sport bike might be shorter than the NC so not sure the whole fork would work. Then there's the wheel width to check, then the brake piston diameters (vs master cylinder diameter), then .......

Are you having braking issues? Seems like the brakes on these bikes are pretty good overall.

I am looking into getting more travel on my 2021 so am hip deep into researching forks and shocks....mainly longer damper rods from any 41mm Showa fork and longer travel shocks.......

There is a YouTuber who has done a fork swap on an NC700X, you can see some details in several of the videos in this playlist:

I *think* he used the front-end from an older TransAlp, and it required a fair bit of machining and welding to make it work.

Yip those are my builds, the first was a Transalp 700 fork swap, easy peazy...the second unit i do a CRF450 swap, slightly different setup but wayyy cooler, full adjustable suspension.

Additional 10L fuel tank also being built in...
