Day 129 ...what a smorgasbord of weather on today's ride. Started off somewhat sunny, changed to sprinkles, changed to dry and overcast, back to sprinkles, then full blown rain, back to cloudy dry and finally sunny again. 70 miles @ 75 degrees

“Whipped one up” a bit of understatement!
Haha thanks! Actually I impressed myself so much with the quick version I decided to see how nice I could make it. I call version one my "oven mitts" version since it was just shaped by hand. Version has clean lines and no more waviness.

The grommets add two much depth for the stock screws, so I don't have it installed just yet.

Very, very good work! One thing, if you used the stock rubber wellnuts on a 2012-15 model, they may pull out with the wind’s leverage on the big screen. Nutplates are the way to go. Love the screen design and it looks quite functional.

Nice work! How thick is the plexi that you used? I have a whole sheet left to me by a buddy who moved. It would be fun to try this as well.
Your design has the little winglets built in which is really nice!

Let us know how it performs.

@670cc : Maybe these posts on this topic should be a topic on its own? Great reference material here!

OMG that's why I'm replacing it in the first place! The puig touring screen pulled the well nuts while I was on the highway!

I'm looking up Nutplates right now. Thank you!!! 1000008389.webp

It's the $27 Home Depot .093x20x24" acrylic sheet. I was worried about flimsiness but proceeded when I noticed it was about the same thickness as the puig (which is probably polycarbonate). Once you add some bends along the length they provide quite a bit of stiffness. I Covered both sides with blue painters tape and left that on through all steps, even heating and bending. Cuts real nice on the band saw just be real diligent about relief cuts as you go.

If interested, I could create a separate post on what I did. I took plenty of pics.

I couldn't find a current seller for a model-specific nut plate. Here's what I'm going to try: I ordered the adjustable bracket from Amazon. That will allow me to get hands behind it during install. I'll cut down 4 well-nuts, making them essentially just a liners for the current mounting holes (keeping stuff tight), and put a washer and lock but behind it. The I will screw the windshield to the bracket. I'll follow up with pics when it comes in on Wed.

I tried to ride from Maple Grove, MN to Milbank SD but DAMN, those western MN winds can be strong! I got 2/3 the way and turned around. Not warm enough, not comfortable enough to be worth the fight.

According to their website, the Puig Touring windscreen is "4mm thick acrylic material".

I would've thought it was Lexan (polycarbonate) as well!?!

The screen for the 750 is thicker. The 700 screen is 3mm, and I think that's at the thickest part. That's a difference of something close to 0.7mm between the thickest part of the puig and the .093in acrylic sheet.

I'll bet it's extruded acrylic vs cast, and that's probably why it feels more like PC.

Chopped off a bit of my givi handguard with an oscillating tool, on full lock it slightly catches my aftermarket screen, i think also givi, pretty annoying. Took it to get inspected, noticed i'm starting to get a little cracking in the fork seals, i'm sure that will be annoying. I should get barkbusters ones of these days, I really only have handguards on there so I can use my hippohands in the winter

Adding bar risers fixed the issues I had with my barkbusters hitting aftermarket screens. It also just made it much more comfortable for me.

I’m a bit on the shorter end, I have no interest in raising the bars, though that would definitely have fixed the issue. I have a dremelled in slot too for the brake line bc it was hitting originally. I take pleasure in cludged solutions
