I want to thank everyone here for sharing their knowledge about the NCxs. There may be one in my future.
You can't find DCT anywhere near my neighborhood and you have to travel a couple hundred miles to find any kind of NCx because the neighborhood Honda shop is not getting new bikes in. You have to go to the high volume super outlets.

So I decided to buy from a local Mom & Pop shop with a great reputation & mechanic and go with the 650cc Mark III Royal Enfield Interceptor. It was $6733.00 out the door, no shipping charge and taxes and plates included. I met one of the owners of GoMoto, at the last Vintage Bike show at the State Fair Grounds in 2019 and saw the first RE 650cc they had in their shop at the Fair Grounds. So they have always been in my mind. The Mechanic, Marty has a great reputation. He put crash bars and a carrier without charging labor and gave me a discount on the accessories. I doubt that happens at a big box dealer.

They just got their first batch in and they sold within a week before they could advertise them. I luckily got the last one. They will get more in next week. I am calling him "Daruma" and he joins his stablemates ('83 GL650 "Fafnir" & '82 GL500 "Littlewing.") These are getting good MPG in the 70s on the highway. 50s in the city.

I test rode one summer of 2019... Went to the Indian dealership in Lexington Ky (they also sell RE). They handed be the key and told me to be back in an hour (self guided ride). Nice bike, performance is comparable to the NC700x...the brakes are better than the NC700x...while riding (doing 55mph on country highway) there was a lady who make a left turn in front of me and when she saw me, stopped..I was on the ABS hard and stopped inches from t-boning her...if I had been on the nc700x or my c50 boulevard,, I would not have been able to stop. Didnt buy it due to I decided 3 bikes in the stable is enough for now...but if/when my c50 boulevard decides to die (now with 102,000+miles-rode it some on Saturday), the RE 650 will be on the list to replace it.

Congrats on the new bike. It's also on my list of next bikes. I haven't made it up to St. Louis (We've actually got two dealers!!), to demo one yet. But most everyone that has, seems to like them.

Thanks Folks! I am 5'8" and have difficulty mounting the GL650 without standing on the footpeg. Even thought the Interceptor's seat is 1.5" taller, I can lift a leg and get on. I am not sure why. Maybe the narrower seat and more angle on the side stand.

My dry bags I bought for my GL650 fit. I was afraid the uprurned mufflers would get in the way, but they just clear them. I'll insulate the bottom of the bags. The saddles are 40ltrs each and the duffle 60ltrs. I don't think I'll ever need the duffle unless I do a multiple week trip and I'll only put light bulky stuff in it. Keep center of gravity low.

The reviews I've read have mentioned that the engine is "over built" )like the GL500) and it could easily be made as a 750. RE has said a 750cc is in their future. I'll stick with the 650cc. The claimed mpg is 50/70. Some folks are getting better.

The after market accessory list is huge thanks to the Indian market. I ordered the touring seat (the last photo) for $117.00, free FedEx delivery. I think the hump on the pillion will raise the saddlebags a couple inches.
I will change the fenders to a polished stainless steel and the blinkers to LED chrome by spring.

Great! I had a nice weekend the day I picked mine up, but I knew snow was coming on monday, so I got the Interceptor, GL650 and GL500 ready for winter. Put non-oxy gas in all of them and road them along the Mississippi to mix it through the systems. We've had snow twice. I hope to get some clear days yet to ride.

Have you done any touring on your Interceptor? I plan on using both the GL650 and the Mark III to tour with and I will compare them. What little I was able to ride, I think the power and pulling ability of the Mk III is comparable to my GL650. It has illusive "the 6th gear" everyone is always searching for on the Silverwings. |
I've watched youtube and in India they take the Interceptors touring into the Himalayas.
