The 2021 Royal Enfield Bullet 500: A Modern Yet Classic Design

Contents

The 2021 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 is the latest in a long model line that stretches all the way back to 1932. In fact, counting the smaller engine variants, the Bullet is the oldest continuous production motorcycle in the world, with the original Bullet first released in 1901. And throughout its life, speaking to the well thought out British engineering and design of the bike, not much has been changed.

It is powered with the tried and true Royal Enfield 499cc twin-spark single-cylinder engine, producing 27.2 BHP and 30.5 lbs-ft of crank torque. The only real difference in the engine since inception is that it has moved from a carburetor to electronic fuel injection, and the addition of an electric starter. Apart from that… even Royal Enfield is proud to claim that it’s still mostly the same bike as in 1932.

The other modern tweaks to the bike include disc brakes, standard ABS, and some exhaust work to meet emissions regulations. Otherwise, the Bullet 500 speaks to a time when the motorcycle was not just a practical choice, but a lifestyle choice, when you could enjoy the freedom of the open road without dancing on the razor’s edge of speed and danger. It’s the style of standard motorcycle that you take for a ride through a canyon pass and enjoy the view while you do so.

The 2021 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 starts at $4,999 USD / $6,499 CAD
