I never cleaned by chain particularly. Just sprayed the bike total with a low pressure water hose occasionally. And then applied some off-road oil to the chain. I have the scott-oiler and my chain lasted 25000km. So i never really oiled my chain except when done with getting the grub off.
The last installment of the "holiday" a long 3 hours plus movie of riding through the ardennes mostly unedited. You've been warned. :P

I went to join my g/f and het daughter in a hotel in Givet just in France.
Made some timelaps movies and normal ones. The timelaps stuff is without audio.
The normal ones are ussually long and winded movies. Be warned.
I'll add links as i post them online.
Timelaps first:
4th of may...
I put 2.5 in the front and 2.9 in the back. I didn't want to hurt my rims going over the belgian cobbles.
I don't race over these paths. Like some of the others did. I just take it easy. And shake my weight about to keep balance. :)
That belly protector got a serious workout.
Had to...
K73 Heidenau on the back. Works well allround. But little to no grip in the mud. The TKC70 was better for that.
A BW501 on the front. Once but not again. I'll try anything more offroad oriented after this on the front. the TKC80 lost it's blocks much too easy after a few thousand km's.
It was hard. But i made it.
I can brag and say i rode through that all alone but my rear tire didn't give me much grip. So i had an extra HP behind the NC
She was saying: "Stick to the left of the puddle and it's ok. I'll push!"
I don't get the fuss some people make about lugging. It sounds like lugging but it's a 270 degree twin. It's supposed to sound like that. I went 2 up through wales with camping gear and went up 20% narrow lanes with fences :) and hairpins. In D. Without any problems. It has sounded like lugging...
I recently got rit of the TKC80 on the front and got a Bridgestone allroad tire instead. Works good enough. And now i switched the TKC70 on the back for the Heidenau K73.
The bike is digging a lot more on the back. Handles powered corners better in the sand.
I dropped it twice in the deep mud during the night offroad ride. Picked it up same as you did. No problem :) Also had to switch the engine off manually both times.
