Hello everyone! I was out riding my 2014 Honda NC700X when I stopped for some gas before going home. When trying to open the hatch to get to the gas cap, I couldn't get one side to unlatch. Once I applied pressure to the rear seat and turned the key, it was able to open if I lifted it. Once I got home, I looked at it, and the latch mechanism to open it seems loose. Anyone else have this issue or know a way to fix this? Thank you in advance!

I don’t know if your bike’s seat latch has a problem or not, but I will say that I always press down on the rear seat (in my case, Dale’s rack) and the frunk lid when/while unlatching them, to lessen stress on the latch mechanism.

For your situation, I would suggest inspecting the latch hardware for loose or worn components, or perhaps the latch needs lubrication.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely take a look for worn/loose components. Thanks for the tip of applying pressure in order to take stress off.

this is the most recent post I have come across about the seat getting stuck. it has now happened to me twice and I had to remove way to much stuff just to get something in to pry it loose on both sides. some people have talked about safety wire to keep the cable from falling out or tying string to it as a back up. I wanted to post my fix as something simple and permanent to never have this problem again because I have found it very Irritating twice now since owning the bike. I took apart the latch and ground down the detent so that it now goes both ways opening and closing. now all i have to do is give a little tug and my seat opens and neve again should i ever have this trouble. the picture is of one side and you have to do it to both sides but it works it is cheap and it solved the problem for me. Should note that it is no longer held closed as tight as it used to be but I am finding it so much more convenient than using the key release.
