2021: What did you do to/with your NC700/NC750 today?

We are keeping our toddler grandson a couple of days so no riding today. He still takes a long nap and I was able to do a couple of things. First I removed the side stand to shim it, clean, and grease the moving parts. Then I removed the brake pad retaining pins for inspection of the pins and pads.

Put the new DID VX3 chain on the street NC last night. I like the natural color finish much better than the gold color finish of the VX3 on my track NC.

Was surprised to see the chain that I took off of it was a DID VO chain...lower grade than the VX3. Bike only had 4100 miles on it when I bought it, so I figured it had oem chain, but maybe he changed it? Or maybe they put DID chains on oem in 2016? Who knows. I know the old chain was in bad shape, kinked all to hell.

I like the silver wheels

Went for a birthday ride with the wife. We're both pleased with the ride quality of the Cogent Dynamics suspension and also the beautiful Olympic peninsula

Rode past a few harvested parcels that were full of blooming foxglove, daisies, and a few other types of wildflower that I'm not familiar with. I'm so happy to be away from the cities of King county

Rode a 150 mile loop that involved stopping at my friend Steve's house where we installed a Feniex T3 strobe brake light on his 2012 NCX. We have had rain and lots of it for a few weeks now but I stayed dry in gear. I did several miles of dirt road to see how these Pilot Road 4s do on hard packed moist dirt and they are as good as street tires can be on hard dirt. The river is the St. Mary's and this spot is where the first commercial road from St. Mary's GA into FL crossed from GA into FL. King's Ferry.

The wife and I, AT HER REQUEST, rode the bikes (NC and Honda Reflex) to the little restaurant at a local state park. It's nice when the wife initiates marital activities. Sorry, no pics.

My wife went down on the gravel at a corner. Turning off asphalt onto the gravel she said she was going a bit too fast. Fortunately it was still low speed, just not low enough. She wasn’t shaken or hurt but more was upset with herself. I went back to help lift the bike but she wanted to do it herself. Still I spotted from behind and helped a little, but not too much. I did remind her to put he kickstand down so the bike would come to rest on the stand instead of just falling over the other direction.

I wish we had an Unlike for this. I’m glad for no injury.

Returned home from a 4-day ride over to and around NM. Fun and scenic roads up to the Sandia Crest and around that area (E. of Albuquerque), then up to Santa Fe and up and around to the E and N. Then over to Los Alamos and through the mtns to the west, back south to Gallup, then back home. Lots of good curves, and MUCH cooler than southern AZ. We had pretty thunderstorms around us most of the time, and got to ride into a decent rain in the evening approaching Gallup. My wife thought that was great fun, which did my heart good because I love to ride or drive in the rain.

Wife was on the bike with me, and the folks were on their bike. Mom is just getting back to being comfortable on the bike through curves after a super-low-speed crash annihilated her ankle a couple years ago. She still has significant trouble with it, and always will. Still likes to go for rides, though.

My folks have a neat cooling vest I’m intrigued by. A tiny pump circulates cold water from a cooler they put on the back through a Veskimo-like vest. It works very well, so Dad is putting together a second setup so they can both wear them. The NCX doesn’t have enough luggage space for me to add that when the wife is with me unless it’s just a day ride.

I think it is wonderful that she handled the good and bad side of it and got through it. It is times like these you can ask her how she would make changes. Does she want leather on the bike. Maybe handgrips like mine? Maybe it is time for a new modular helmet? One with a good stereo. Maybe a new phone holder. Turn the bad into the good. Any source of one-sided news would always create suspicion. We need people to tell us about the humps and dumps.
She knew her mistake and stated it clearly, she rides frequently but with the foster baby in the house less so over the past 16 months. She has here bike set up the way she likes it. She has multiple helmets. Cardo Palktalk. Phone stays in her frunk. Doesn't wear or want leather but does ATGATT (well not quite, she often rides without her gloves on, and she was not wearing moto-gloves when she went down, but didn't scrape her hands)

Ran some errands. Picked up some tools at Home Depot. Stopped to drop off some tax papers at the accountant's office so he could file my 2020 taxes. Played with the SPOT X tracking and check in features while going to different points and sending messages.

Temps topped 90 degrees. Full sun. High humidity. So I did my best to take routes that would keep me out of stop & go traffic and rode a lot of suburban and rural roads that were not necessity the most time efficient but did allow me to keep moving so I had airflow.

Rode almost hours but never crossed a county line, other than 20-ish minutes in Home Depot I don't think I spent more than 5 minutes off the bike during that time.
