I know this can be a heated topic but I was hoping to get some input on riders who ride like I do. Mostly city/street riding with some hill country on the weekends. I like the idea of both, but I can't afford to do both. I also am not sure I should get them as I don't own the bike yet, and I will eventually trade it in for something with a little more power.

What is your intended purpose for these items, to protect the motorcycle’s bodywork? I dunno, but I’ve probably ridden 200,000 miles since I dropped a street bike. I’d suggest just focusing on not dropping it, instead of installing sliders and such.

A bit, but mostly to protect the vital components.

Exactly my thoughts. Learn not to drop it.

Save $ and save weight too.

They don’t save anything in a real crash. The bike will be totaled with or without them if you crash it.

Same as above. Although I am just returning to biking this year I originally researched this topic and also decided to save the money and not drop the bike. So far so good. It’s incredible how quickly my riding abilities have come back but I am giving a lot of the credit to the motorcycle as this is very cooperative to ride with no surprises!!!

Having seen examples of major damage done to frames by sliders after bikes were dropped, I would never use them. Sure they slide on a smooth surface but as soon as they catch the edge of a kerb or similar then the frame damage occurs.

My unequivocal recommendation is for crashbars. Personally I went for Givi because imho they are well constructed albeit their paintwork is poor.
