Hi - I've recently purchased a new NC 750XD in Mexico where I live but have a problem with the tyres. When I originally ordered the bike the showroom model was fitted with 50/50 tyres - Continental I think - but when I finally got my bike the agency gave me a different unit - all specs the same except that the tyres fitted are Bridgestone Battlewing, BW-501 Front and BM-502 rear rated at 80/20.

As many of the roads I want to travel are dirt and often loose stone chippings, sometimes wet, and I prefer to look for a 50/50 tyre. A friend of mine who rides a BMW 850 GS recommended I look at Mitas E-07 tyres and I have since seen a number of Youtube videos recommending these tyres but although the Mitas site has a number of alternatives for the 17" rear wheel I can't see any for the 17" front wheel.

Can anyone on the forum recommend which tyres would best suit me - not necessarally Mitas. . I am probably going to be using my bike about 60/40 road v dirt and gravel tracks with occasional light muddy trails and am looking for good mileage as I plan to use the bike for long distance adventure touring.

Appreciate any help.

Mitas E-07 and E-07+ are great. Just mix with a Conti TKC 80 that DOES come in a wider-rim 17" wheel. The Mitas E-07 especially, lasts a long time. But instead of having a front tire that lasts about twice as long as the rear you'll likely end up with a front that last about the same or even a bit less. That's life with a 17".

Actually though, a tire for what you describe probably doesn't need to be a 50/50. The Shinko 705 which is more like 80/20 should do fine in all but real mud.

Haha! REAL mud is a challenge for any tire, but I cooked my clutch try to get some Shinko 705s through some REAL mud. But for your average mud, they should be fine.

That stuff there ended my days on trying to take my 1970 Honda CL175 off road. Southeastern Ohio had that mucky stuff everywhere! Front tire wouldn’t go anywhere I wanted it to.

You’re right on that. This mud experience taught me that close fitting fenders and huggers have no business being on a true adventure motorcycle or an off road motorcycle.
