Post your 2021 Model Riding Impressions Here

I am nearly at 500 miles on my 2021 DCT odometer. I have grown more comfortable and confident at higher speeds, even with the wind pushing me around. I am most comfortable around 65mph. This is fast enough that the vehicles around me aren’t knocking on my back door and slow enough that the wind is not pushing me to hard.

Ride modes-standard vs sport is quite different. Sport is very snappy and you can even hear the difference through the exhaust. Standard suits me well, but I did spend a leisure ride playing around with the user option. The fact that I can adjust the engine braking is great. Sometimes I want to coast a little quicker to stop lights.

manual mode-I spent very little time on this. It felt a little clunky for commuting, but maybe it would be more useful on a leisure ride. I did accidentally downshift while trying to hit the horn button!

rain mode-I rode using rain mode once. I was traveling very slowly because it was raining so hard and the wind was insane. I’ll be interested to see how this mode fairs over more use.

ergos and comfort - I can nearly sit on the rear seat while riding. I have appreciated the near forced proper posture while riding. The seat is not very comfy, but I understand this is a common complaint. Foot pegs are too high for me, but I knew that would be the case.

fuel economy has hovered around 66mpg, but I haven’t been particularly economic while riding. If the speed limit is 45, I’ll throttle hard to get there.

it has been a joy to ride. I realized today that I made a smart choice. I was choosing between more expensive and powerful bikes. But I think this is sufficient.

I put 200 miles on my 2021 Manual today. I am pleasantly surprised that I don't miss the power (that much) from the FJR. I do need to concentrate on being in the right gear for the task but that is part of the fun. The handling is so much better than the FJR, it is worth the power reduction. I can carry much more speed in the corners with the NC.

The seat is pretty bad, but most stock seats are. I am waiting to see what options become available in the next few months. I will probably want a larger screen for the cooler months coming. Again, I hope the aftermarket has something to offer soon.

Overall, no regrets.

Ok, about the seat.

I understand the 2021 seat is considered more comfortable than in previous years. I find it to be quite comfortable at first, meaning it is padded well enough. It felt great in the showroom. But what happens to me I will explain and I hope I don't sound gross or offensive.

My problem is the angle of the seat surface and the length of the section that is sat on. I can't scoot back very far without hitting the pillion section and the angle of the seat tends to make me work forward. Besides putting me a bit closer to the bars than I like, the main issue is what it does to my "junk" in this process. It causes the fabric in the crotch of my pants to kind of roll back, taking some parts with it such that I am now sitting directly on them. Lifting off the seat to try and "reset" things down there doesn't seem to help. After a few miles, numbness sets in. I've only commuted to work so far which is 28 miles and about 35 minutes of riding each way and it is noticeably worse in the afternoon (90+ degrees lately). I've only done this 3 times so far as this is my first week with the bike.

This effect has happened to me before with my FJR but only on long rides >1 hour. Not so much on my Tiger. It could just be me and my anatomy or my choice of trousers. But on the FJR, I could just move back on the seat for a few miles and that helped. This seat is just too short to do that.

Before passing full judgment, I will give it a chance to break in, but maybe I'll be in the market for an aftermarket seat soon. For a long ride, I suppose I might replace underpants with bicycle riding shorts. But I can't see doing that for my daily commute to work.

Anyone else have to deal with this?

I have the Honda Tall Windscreen on order and it will be delivered today. It's 3" taller than stock. I'll let you know if it makes much difference. I don't want to get one of those deflectors because I don't love the look, but it may be needed to quiet things down. I like to listen to podcasts in my helmet and it's hard to hear with the stock setup and my helmet speakers are pretty loud.

I agree, the seat is pretty bad. It is top on my mod list. Not many options at the moment short of sending your seat in for a custom build. Sargent and Corbin don't seem to realize there have been changes for 2021. It would be interesting to try a 2016+ Sargent or Corbin on a 2021. One other forum member tried a 2012 factory and Corbin seat and they did not fit.

I may break down and try a Seat Concepts and install myself. I just sold/shipped my RDL front seat from my FJR and it cost $50 to ship.

I haven't ridden with it yet, but here is a shot of the "Tall Windscreen" from Honda (P/N: 08R70-MKW-D00) overlayed on the stock windscreen. The regular price is $160.25. Your Honda dealer may offer a discount.

Let us know how it goes. On earlier model years, the tall Honda windscreen was noisy because it directed the wind blast around the neck area.

Hope it's tall enough to do you some good.

I ordered the stupid thing before doing all the research. It looks like California Scientific makes very tall ones. We will see how it goes. It's 100º outside right now so I'll find out later. :)
I was looking at CalSci because I have used their stuff in the past and was pleased. I was looking at the medium screen but found what looks like a typo in the table. I sent an email to verify if it was for the NC750X not the 2021 NC700X as stated for the medium and small size. I have not heard back from them yet.

A half measure that helps some live with the stock seat is to raise the front 1/2 to 3/4”. Google NC700X Showkey Mod for lots of responses. The Showkey mod worked for me a long time but I eventually went to a Sargent seat. I always wear a boxer-type of brief and riding pants so I don’t get the bunched-up clothing problems.

Thanks for the tip. I will surely try this.

Did a short trip. Not on the freeway but was able to get up to 70. Much better, but slipstream is still too powerful for my face shield to remain fully or partially open above 60 mph. My helmet is a Schuberth C3 so it’s already pretty quiet and I would say the noise level is very good, but I really need my face shield to be open at least a little in the summertime. Maybe a deflector on top will make it right. Maybe 2-3 more inches will too, but I honestly think this height looks very good and much taller might look a little freakish to me. I’ll ride with it for a couple of weeks before saying for sure.

I ride with my face shield part way open ALL the time, even on my naked bikes.

Right now the shield on my NC is 4" shorter than stock and I ride with my faceshield partway open. Does you Schuberth not have notches or stages for the shield? ie 3 or 4 different places where it holds the shield open at varying degrees?

Last night I looked at the CalSci site someone mentioned, and talk about looking freakish. You'd really have to want the wind protection to have that thing on your bike. It wouldn't be for the looks, that's for sure.

Did you order the Large screen? Can you measure the overall height and the height from the top mounting screw to the top? I don't trust the info on their website due to the model names for the medium and small referring to "2021 NC700X".

It’s about 10.25”. I posted the part number somewhere here and a photo showing the two overlaying.

Lots of notches in it. Recently replaced also because the old one had no strength. Not the first time being replaced either. Maybe my problem is my helmet and not the windshield. It’s an old helmet maybe due for replacement anyway. The flip up front doesn’t stay up anymore either and that I can’t fix.

He ordered the Honda touring screen NOT a CalSci. See posts 45 and 47 this thread

I looked at doing this today. I just happen to have some of the chair leg feet in my junk box. It seems like it might make a slight improvement but I am concerned about the front attachment because it is made of plastic on the 2021. I am not sure I want to drill, etc into the plastic support.

My gut feel is the root of the problem is seat foam being too soft.
