Windscreens Windshields Aftermarket Madstat vs the competition (don't make this mistake - if you want handguards)

Just talked to Madstad tech support and they are not selling anything for the 2021 NC 750 until they have a chance to see if any design changes are necessary. They are trying to get their fingers on a 21 model but they are unobtainium in Central Fla at the moment. Check back in awhile (not further defined).

MadStad screens are designed so you look OVER the top of it not thru the windscreen. If you are looking thru it then the screen is too tall for you.
Sorry, but not true! I’ve been looking THROUGH mine since 2014 and love the quiet pocket of air it provides. The only time I lower mine to look over it is when it is raining so that the air clears the rain from my face shield.

This will be my first run with Madstad but it really depends upon the bike and what I'm doing with it...how high the screen needs to be for ME. Harley has a short one along with the dual sports since I need to stand and see over the splatered bugs easily. Road bikes mostly depends upon the shield so I play with the Madstad and if it is too tall I can always cut it off as needed. Like the old saying...cut it twice and it's still too short...harder to add on than cut. Then again some times I take the shield off and enjoy the air flow when it's slow and hot riding...one size does not fit all. Just bought a 1974 Honda Trail 90...I think there is a law against putting a shield on them.

Actually it’s still true. On the NC the screen is designed to be looked over, not thru, as per my conversations with the folks at MadStad. They designed it that way. The angle adjustment, combined with the adjustable height, allows the screen to be below you eye-line by a few inches but deflect the air above your helmet. I’m not a going to argue. But feel free to call them. That is what they told me when I sized mine. They confirmed it when I sized one for my wife.

You might like it like that and that’s perfectly fine but it’s designed to have the top edge between the bottom of your nose and the top of your upper lip.

When they needed a test bike for the second generation NC shield system Therapy, his son, and I volunteered our bikes and rode to the factory. They cut several shapes/sizes for the different bikes (Therapy is really tall and I’m really short) and rode them all numerous times, finally letting us ride our bikes with what the designer thought worked best with the available adjustment for rider height.

Still, I understand if you like looking through it then you have a shield too tall for most riders and that’s your preference. I like having just enough wind to ventilate my helmet and clear rain off of my face shield.

That was a GREAT chance to learn from the designer and get what works best for you.

A box from MadStad arrived today and I promised myself to not open the box until the bike arrives so I can take it directly from the box and install it on the new bike...sorta like a Christmas present you asked for and know what's in the box but still suspenseful and exciting...I think.

I was on the Bandit yesterday and noticed that if I slouch enough I can look thru the shield but sitting upright I see over the top...I guess as I should. Airflow still hits my helmet on top when leaning forward/slouching and looking thru the shield. Upright I get a view over the top which is not uncomfortable but I know from experience that bugs and rain hit the helmet and usually my sun glasses or visor depending upon which one I'm wearing. I bought a taller than needed MadStad shield so I can trim it and find what I believe is the proper height. Won't know for sure until I play with it but I'm not opposed to looking thru it if that's what seem correct for me.

If you adjust the angle of the Madstad properly it will deflect the air so you see above the screen and the wind goes just over your head/helmet. I don't recall the recommended angle, but for some reason 62 degrees comes to mind. The proper angle setting is on the instructions(?) or the website(?) for our bikes. It took me a few rides on country roads to get it properly set. But once it is set it is like magic.

Went for a rain ride (intentionally) a couple days ago because I wanted to see if my new Sidi Armada boots were actually waterproof. Honestly didn't have enough rain to really prove the GoreTex worked in the boots, but it was alternating between drizzle and pretty good rains during my ride. With the Madstad my torso stayed dry, I had some rain hit my visor but most of that was at speeds below 30mph, at higher speeds the visor remained pretty clear.

I also noticed when I switched to the Madstad that I no longer need earplugs. Pre-Madstad windscreen my Arai helmet did a great job quieting the noise, until I opened the vents. But with the stock Honda screen I noticed the noise was pretty loud with the Arai's vents open. Now the vents are open all summer and the helmet is still very quiet. Obviously quieter with them closed, but even vents open the helmet does a great job of keeping the noise down, so I credit the Madstad for that too.

The biggest downside to the Madstad is that it does too good of a job in protecting me from wind in hot/humid conditions, especially in city/suburban traffic. I don't like to bake, but even in mesh gear it gets pretty warm behind the Madstad. I bought the recommended size for my height (6' tall) and think I have an 18" screen. I would personally not want a taller one, well maybe I would in March and October when the temperatures can dip down considerably.

Thank you Sir!! Comments are meaningful and etched in my little brain. Wish the bike would get here so I can play!!
